Jersey Giants thread for pictures and discussion

I did and I am trying now to get in touch with NC Giants who posts on this thread.

We are trying to get some chicks or eggs to get a strain started down her in South Alabma .

I want the best I can get my hands on as we intend to breed these birds up and show them.

Thank you very much for your help. bob
Bob, Tim was at my farm last year and he told me his Black Giants go back to Golda Miller lines, I know he has had giants several years. He had some fowl at the Ohio National show which he is President . I am sure he would be willing to help you out with some Giants.

Frankly, you would be hard pressed to find anyone breeding exhibition Giants that DOESN'T have Golda's original blood in them! She was fantastic for this breed!!

At a show last fall, I spoke with judge Gary Overton - he recalls spending time with Golda as a boy, and shared some wonderful stories about her. I feel honored to carry on her heritage in this breed!

Wynette, was answering a question that was asked.

Yep, I know - saw that. Not sure what you're meaning is here.

I was just commenting that she's the foundation to this breed.

Yes Goldie was one of the top large fowl breeders of the past 100 years and we should do what we can to keep her hard work going.

I myself am a Rhode Island Reds breeder but when others who want a certain breed it my duty to at least try to help them get the best that they can and also help them in breeding them up or if nothing else keep them at the level that we get them.

I will be taken on a old trio of Mottled Javas that belonged to a old timer Dr. Albert McGraw of Alabama. A fellow has this old line and are still pure but can no longer take care of them because of his age with his father who is taking care of them. So I will try to reproduce this old line and share them with others who are Java lovers and then after that I will retire from the breed.

We are in no hurry to get these Giants. We just want some this sping so we can build our breeding pens next year. I am sure what we will do is have a big show at our second annual Winter Show the first weekend of December next year then put the breeding pens together at this show for the two breeders or others who may want the extra birds.

Thanks again.

I have never in my life seen a JG next to a normal size bird. I have never seen a full grown JG in my area. Does anyone have any standing next to a orpington or some sort? I wanna see the size difference. I think I have found a new bird to fall in love with! I may have to add to my wish list.

This is one of Wynette's JG. Next to a buff orpington, a month or two older than the JG:

With the same buff orp, red sex link, and white leghorn. The leghorn is standing up tall here, she is actually much shorter than the JG.

JG and leghorn sitting together:

The JG *is not* full grown in these pis, but the leghorn is. My JG is the sister of the roosters shown in this post : https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...or-pictures-and-discussion/3640#post_10001093

Here's a pic of my 7month old birds next to both a leghorn and a gold sexlink which are 2.5 years old. They are the siblings of Slinglings's black girl and those two boys were the ones I was holding up! I hatched these awesome birds from Wynette's stock who shipped the eggs over 2k miles to the west coast in perfect shape with 100% fertility!
