Jersey Giants thread for pictures and discussion

The Feed store has Jersey Giants in today? I realize they are just hatchery quality. There were black and yellow mixed chicks and solid yellow chicks. What will the yellow chicks grow up into?

Hi there, I inherited 2 giants from someone who could no longer keep them. They are about a month old. My question is they are very skiddish. Not sure if that is because they got moved around a lot or if they were not handled enough? Anyways, do they calm down? I try to go out and give treats, pet and hold them about 4 times a day. I got 2 blue laced red wyondottes as well and they are very friendly so I'm a bit baffled. I love giants and am looking forward to response! Thanks!

I've only owned a jersey Roo who was anything but skittish. I had to re-home him about 8 weeks ago (he only liked me and he was rough on our hens at his 19#)..I did hatch 6 of his eggs and kept two for myself. They are about a month old themselves. The grandaughter's each Claimed one. My older granddaughter Holds hers a lot more than the younger granddaughter does and you can really tell a difference in the temperament of the bird. The one that's held is so calm and peaceful and the one who is not held as much tends to be more skittish. So could be just a matter of handling.

I've got a 5 week old cockerel, he's got a laaarge comb and now his wattles and other facial bits are sprouting. Is it usual for this breed to be so quick to grow their adult features? I know they're overall slow growers, so it surprised me. I could tell he was a male at 2 weeks, his comb was just that big, his lady friend just had nubbies.

This is him at 4 weeks, the black bird.

In my experience my cockerel grew his features quite quickly. He ate like crazy; hogging the food bowl 24/7.
