I found that very interesting, that the blue Giants did not exist until the 1980s. So, they are relatively new, really. (Well, I am old, and to me that is not long ago!)[/quote

My grandmothers flock was in the family for over 100 years before I took over her flock as a child in 1976- pretty amazing the blue color was even produced back then:)

Now all we need is silver laced JG's

OK, let's start on that project .... Silver Laced Giants! Oooooohhhhhhh, that could become the next big hit! But, I believe it may be a little faster to go with Lavender. I have the Lavender gene in my Orp project birds. I was thinking of crossing a few with some of my Giants. What do ya think, Lavender Giants? I am sure it would take a few generations to get the correct conformation, but it could be a fun project.

I kinda wonder about that website.
http://nationaljerseygiantclub.com/aboutus.html The National Jersey Giant Club .... It does not seem to be a very active site. I found that rather surprising, that it says the Blues originated in 1981. Maria, have you been in contact with this club at all? Do they know of your stock and history? Is there any other Jersey Giant club or association?

yep A1Blues is Maria Hall (Maria's Jersey Giants)

If anyone wants to join the Jersey Giant Club you can do so at this link:

The National Jersey Giant Club Website is relatively new. I know it takes time to maintain websites between outside jobs & additional responsibilities.

Folks if you know of somebody wanting Splash & Blue Jersey giant chicks, I have a hatch coming off tonight 5/9/10. The blacks are sold in this hatch assuming I can fill the order of the # requested. In all of my years of raising giants since 1976- this year brings many splashes & blues beyond belief- I am using roos & hens of all 3 colors & I normally get about 1/2 black & the rest blue with a very low% of splash. Can't figure it totally out yet:) There would be normally 4-6 splash out of 80-90 chicks from last years hatches. A chick order consists of at least 16 chicks & I do send a couple extras per shipment. We also send ripe cantaloupe chunks & boiled egg yolks for the trip to go. We rarely have chicks to die during shipment. If there is any there is perhaps 1 loss. Email me if interested in babies. The chicks will ship out either this Monday or Tuesday.

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY TO ALL OF THOSE MOMS OUT THERE!!

I have a question when it comes to introducing new colors and patterns for feathering- If you were to introduce the lavender gene via your Orps, Kathyinmo, how many generations would it take to restore the purity of JG, assuming you achieved the desired coloring and conformation 1st?

It would take many many generations. I am not sure how many genereations it has taken for the Lav Orps to get to where they are today. I just think it will be a fun project for my retirement years.

I have twice sent a note requesting information and have received no response to date. I am not a 100% sure it is not a scam, we shall see if I get a response to this last requesst for information, which I sent out last week.
