The 3 JG chicks I got from a breeder all had yellow feet, and then I got one from a hatchery and it didn't have the right color of feet.

Have you checked the bottom of their feet? Should be yellow, if they are pure Jersey Giants. If those are a year old, I don't think they look alot like the JG type. They look small, I mean not broad enough. I took a couple pictures today. I will post them when I get home from work tonight, if they turned out ....

The 3 JG chicks I got from a breeder all had yellow feet, and then I got one from a hatchery and it didn't have the right color of feet.

The yellow should only be on the bottom of the feet. I sold all of my 2009 small flock that had yellow going alll the way up the legs.

ETA: Please note .... the chick leg and foot color does change. I have noticed this on mine. They should have their appropriate color at a few months old, if I recall correctly. I would not cull young chicks for this. I would wait a few months to see what the true color will be. I usually try to keep my roosters (all breeds) until they are 6 months old before culling, if at all possible, and that is one reason why.

Jerseys were my first choice of chickens and still my first choice 3 years later. Mine are not trouble makers, and their size deters others from picking on them. They seem to be the peace keepers, I've seen them break up fights. Out of all the chicks I've had, the Jerseys have been the most friendly and come right to my hand from day one.

Believe me, you are making the right decision. My Barred Rock is pretty much the same way too, but I only have one.

Your hens are nice looking hens, I can see they have recently gorged themselves, yet I did not recognize them to be jersey giants. I was thinking that they might be a cross or the photo was a response to a previous posting about different breeds being discussed.

More specifically, the comb, even for a hen is quite large and has no distintive points, the body is long and that is good, but it is not very broad or thick (stocky); the legs seem a little slender, where JG are big boned birds. They do not look much like anything I own. It isn't to say you have bad birds; all God's crations are beautiful to me, but your girls do not look like JG. I will download a photo so you can see what I am speaking of and note the hen that I am attaching is not even show quality, but she is the hen of some of my chicks for sale as pet quality. THe chicks are about 7 weeks old at the time of the photo.
