Jersey Giants thread for pictures and discussion

wheres the experts???  gone to bed??
I can't see the comb points on either of them really.  And does anybody have a condensed version of the SOP???  What is the accepted angel of the tail??

According to the SOP................Males tails 30 deg. Females tails 45 deg. Male # 1- @ his age he may be fine. At first glance his back appears to slope back-not level, which makes his tail angle look low .I have found that @ about 18 months after the breast has filled in that they correct their posture a little. He would be a good mate for a short backed high tailed hen. Playing stenghths n weaknesses against each other. Looks like his tail is more purpleish than the desirable "Beetle Green". Don't fret it. Just breed away from it. I haven't seen any perfect ones.....I just try to not pair up the same two flaws in the breeding pen.#2- I can't tell much from the pic. I Gotta go......... Quick shower then off to Morganton NC to a chickenshow in the rain! Have 6 giants entered. (And they all have their own faults)

You have the tails mixed up. It's males 45 and females 30. Also don't worry much about the sheen, work on type first color can be fixed later.

my JG "attempts" to breed, but he's not the alpha rooster and Alpha does run him off when he catches him, but I have no JG hens for him/them so I've never bred him persay. He's just out there in the flock and he IS low on the pecking order tho he is biggest of ALL OF THEM. I seriously should rehome him for his own sake.

There are no other roos in the coop. He did have a few mites last week, and I gave him a good covering of DE.

There are new feathers coming in in that area, and that is where it's irritated.

None of the other chickens have this.

My husband is ready to take him to the vet, but I don't think that's needed.

Also, he does sort of this movement with his neck, reminds me of the old Paula Abdul/Janice Jackson dance move, remember that?

OKAY FOLKS, lets just estimate!

The hens is at about 40.

Why estimate when the answer is posted above? Directly from the Standard Of Perfection, is that not what you are trying to judge from?

Is his tail not good?

Im NOT one of the eggspurts or anyone to be judging but THAT sure is impressive in my humble opinion. WOW, how old is he?? Great shot catching those red comb points against green background, really makes them stand out. Looks alot thicker and fuller in the chest to me than the top one in post 3034

Those are the Standard Jersey Giants, we're trying to determine the tail angle, females are 40* degree angle, (because I only show a female) a APA judge told me..
