Jersey Giants?

I see about 4 eggs per week when they are laying. They seem to be right up there with Orpington production from what I have seen.

1st season 4-5 medium/wk. When I started I had more % McMurray (tall, less broad) and laid 5-6 eggs/week. No jumbos. 2nd yr less#, slightly bigger (the usual). Much better than cochins or brahmas. Generally not *quite* as many as Rhode Island Reds; certainly not as many as Leghorns. I take that back; 2 JG hens I hatched were egg machines 2 yrs in a row, as much as a production strain. If you want only eggs, go for production strains, not 'pure' breeds. Most people here however want a little variety as well when looking out the window at their back yard. At least hatcheries tend to hatch more from more productive birds. An aside: Once I used a nice big black JG roo on our best red sex-link pullets chosen for depth and wide pelvises out of many hundreds (when we raised replacement layers) and got some really nice big friendly production hens that consistently laid XL eggs, but all the (F1) female colors were an unattractive light dirty grey splash.
