JerseyChickens

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Sure sounds like you have a broody! Good luck with the hatch! TwoCrows gave you some great advice and links. If Evelyn started sitting on the 18th you should have chicks hatching around April 8th, though they can be a day or two early or a day or two late. If you only have the two chickens, you can probably just leave her in the nest box where she is to brood. One other thing to take a look at is where the the nest box is, if at floor level it should be fine when the chicks hatch, if it is off the ground you'll want to do something so the chicks can get in and out.

Thank you everyone. I can't believe how much i have learned in one day. She seems fine. I just got nervouse because she wasnt moving off the eggs. Now that I know what she is doing I will leave her alone. The days are on my calendar. The babies can't get out I have a little box around momma. So excited, can't wait!!!

Thanks! just a couple of quick questions. One is how do you post pictures on this site. The other one is will my hen lay anymore eggs while she is brooding.

can I clean her cage while she is sitting on the eggs too. I'm sorry for all the crazy questions I just don't have time to sit down and read today and I just want to make sure that I'm doing everything right.

Do you have other chickens? If nobody is bothering her, then you don't have to put anything up around her. If you have other birds that are annoying her, then yes, I would put something up around her area to keep her alone. Usually other birds are ok with broodies, but always watch when chicks are hatched that no other birds come and hurt the babies. Momma is usually pretty good about protecting them. :-)
I have a rooster is it okay to leave him with her

As long as he behaves himself and is not trying to mate with her. You don't want him to mess with her. So watch that he leaves her alone as she needs to sit quietly and when she does come out of the box to eat and drink she needs to concentrate on taking care of herself and not fending off the rooster. Keep him separate if you have too. He will be fine alone.

When the babies do hatch, be careful the rooster can't hurt them as well. Make sure the nest box has a good lip on it to keep the babies from falling out but also that momma hen can get out. It might be a good idea to put up something to keep momma and babies separate from the roo in case the babies do fall or come out. Try not to mess with your hen when you are doing any work around her, but don't be afraid not to get near her. Broodies can appreciate some snack while setting on eggs. They tend to no eat much since they are incubating, but do get hungry, thirsty and bored. You can give her some greens or other treats in your hand occasionally. Keep the her food and water right outside the nest box.

Looks like you are back on. :-)

If you are having any problems just let us know. You will want to use Fire Fox or Chrome here on BYC. Internet Explorer does not play too nice with BYC. :-)
