I have a small flock of black and white jersey giants (15 hens and 2 roos). One noticed some of my hens are a bit skinny and not as plump as the others.
A month ago I treated them for worms but haven't seen much improvement. I am curious what is going on here.
They are a year old this month.
They have just been allowed out to forage after winter (they were confined to coop and run while we were finishing the fence around the pasture).
They get a layer feed from a local farm supplier here in town.
And suggestions?

I noticed you hadn't gotten any replies, so I'll try to help. I have/had 2 giants, a white hen and sold the black rooster because he was nasty.
Where are you? Snowy? Cold?
You're saying they're all the same age. Did you order them from the same place?

It could be some of the girls are pigs and pushed away the smaller birds from the feeder. (not that that ever happens:rolleyes:)
Could be lack of protein. They need more than feed especially when confined because they can't forage for bugs. Make sure the smaller girls get their share. I have a tossing technique that minimizes competition and nastiness. Black oil sunflower seeds are cheap and excellent, any bugs, black soldier fly larvae (my personal favorite).
