Jest Another Day in Pear-A-Dice - Higgins Rat Ranch Conservation Farm in Alberta

I see Emmy is eye balling the smaller birds (chickens , I'm guessing) and Lacey, the group of water fowl. It seems they instinctively split up to keep tabs on both groups.

Have they made any attempt at all to chase them? If birds are calm guess there is no reason too. Smart puppers.

No chooks, bantam ducks are the smaller ones...make a fist, that's their adult size.

Herding breeds...the whole drive to herd is the instinct to "move prey to the human to kill it." Herding circle, multiple dogs form a circle and move the stock to the human,,,so the human may dispatch the stock and the pack eats well.

No ACD worth a pinch of coon poo would ignore a bird...not if they have a shred of herder instinct in them. Need proper exposure and lots of training not to dispatch poultry.

Yes, flapping of wings is one of the major hurdles you have to get the ACDs to ignore. Calm birds, not afraid, yes, those are good ones for beginner dogs to get use to. But the dogs have to also respect you and know the birds are YOURS and by your grace, they are allowed to be near them. Once they get the gist the birds are not one of the food groups, they learn to protect. Remember how I could set Fixins on the "bad birdies" that flew the skies and wanted HER birds. Great stock dogs need some fine tuning...the girls are getting it pretty swell.

Found this hilarious. Rick said he put the two spitters at the pond as dog water fonts. Fixins loved them. I guess so does Emmy.

Anyone here familiar with the Newfy term, "kiss the cod?"

Welcome to Rick's version of the soggy bottom gals...

Ah my, torture time with the garden hose...only men like Rick would come up with this one!
tongue.png

Course you all know WHO was the one to retrieve the towel for the rubby dubs drying session...poor soggy doggies. All better, better enough to build up a bit of an appetite.

Windfallen crabapples anyone??
tongue.png

A tad too tart now are them apples, eh?

Better go back to a steady chew of birch bark...

There, there; much better!

Emmy says "bark" is an acquired taste...

BOW WOW...I guess, eh!

What a nice treat - more pupper pictures, funny, I just came in from watering the plants. Now my jeans are a soggy mess, maybe you could toss me a towel Tara. Another hot - humid day summer doesn't want to leave. I am geared up for fall to no avail.

I have been admonished that because I read and dont respond that I have not really been here. I read it all and live vicariously... I miss my dogs more and more.... and am envious in a good way of your energy and ingenuity.

Perchie fair is fair!! You and Scott chided me because I didn't notice Tara's post before you guys did. Ha ha, I scoff. I went there first and just didn't post at that moment.

p.s. I think we are turning into cattle dog puppers ourselves - I feel a bite coming on. Tara is liable to stuff us into the containment area and forget to come back.

The one thingy Tara would not do is forget a pupper. It would be on purpose for a good reason!

Lacy being the COW dog she be...standing in the green green grasses of home...that need sheep on it...like yesterday!

Rick tilled Ram Pasture this morn and will mow up the Point (had the ruminants feeding on these areas and working our way inwards--I have photos of that to take when I have the dogs out to the playground later today), ran bus kilometers (extra time to do that), still got four tons of grains to pack into the feed room, a tree ring I want done like dinner, started moving concrete ornaments to greenhouse (began on new orchard), have harvested one third of the tater patch...bountiful taters...even some in the dog's dinner (lip smacking delish!)...

Sep 6, 2005, soon will need to dismantle the playground, put the things of summertime away for winter

Regular regiment of making puppy soup stocks for delightful feedings...growing like bad weeds indeed!

Sept 4, 2015

Have the entire whole veg garden to harvest never mind complete clear out of all bird pens and then the water bucket changes for winter coming.

Sep 4, "What is that? A slushy snowcone for puppies?"

Snow came here on the fourth.

"Yup, that is what it is...thank heavens we never got to it first...coulda shoulda bin YELLER SNOW then, eh...."
barnie.gif

Rick has begun to clear out the bird nests for next year's babes...he is looking at the fish pond and contemplating the fish away to the garage and the water plants tucked in there too.

sep 6, 2015

Dogs have app't to best vet on Saturday...there's a whole day for Rick and I in that four hour round trip jest to get to there and back. Hay rounds to haul home (thars a day gone), then bagged feed rations of eight tons (two trips) if the weather ever holds long enough to order it made up. I have suburban (shop manuals, etc) items to order up for Rick this morn and heading to do that now.

All pups after the CORRECTLY coloured Jolly Balls please...obey the draw of the correct colours!
wink.png

No time...none for excesses like this thread, eh!!

Pups putting the run on the ruminants to the finish up on the Point...no longer afraid, confident little blighters!

Yesterday...run runs before the afternoon bus run...tire out the munster dawgs, so they will sleep like babies while I go drive.

"Who yah think yer lookin at?"

"Better look away or...or..."

"I'm SO crushing yer windpipe!"

Time though for the dogs, always have time for them lovely puppers--blissful peace, happy rompers and sheer euphoria.
love.gif

"I may be smaller but I'm way more MEANER!"
Lookit Lacy's head...mooshied like total!
