I got a two spike bale fork that will also do pallets 48 inches or less.
A very handy tool for a tractor owner to have if he has critters to feed and clean up after!

I think it absolutely amazing Rick would even attempt to do that (and they design ones meant to do that...GOOD one Scott!)...but then I am one of those people that cook and don't like to mess with the original recipe's ingredients until I have made the food a few times. I have friends that take a new recipe and start substituting right away... Course their creations work out...mind end up where all "science" projects end...and since the dogs are too spoilt...it is never an end as dog's dinners!

Then there is this one simple query of what does (nfi) mean and off the thread races...ha ha ha...so much for family friendly, eh?

OK guys...nfi means No Financial Interest....I try to state this (when I remember!) so when I DO name a product made by others...I am not pulling some good or bad plug about it because I am being paid to be a positive shrieking parrot on it's virtues or faults. So many false plugs and reviews nowadays on the Internet...I find it amusing I have been using this acronym for decades and it still holds value.

So get the photo of last night's din din posted and done up like dinner...good comfy food dinner it was!


The whitish cloud hovering thing in the foreground top left...is the bread I made. Laugh all you want...it WAS good...all gone now past a crust...ha ha ha. Jest hafta make another loaf I suppose. Oh the toil and strain...

Bread machine makes it far too easy, need to POOF my face with flour and look very haggard (like that Rice Crispy<---NFI!!! commercial, eh!).

So alot of VERY stupid people think that only humans can communicate...indicate wants, needs and thoughts. Sure...sure...I often think people prefer to make it out that animals are DUMB so they don't feel too guilty EATING a dumb creature. HA...those of us that keep the beasts and birds (the heritage breeds especially) know better. And many of us still choose to eat meat but I figure we make sure the living beings we EAT have happy lives while they are with us. Happy meat tends to taste better too, eh!

Fixins can smell exactly where the bunny has been...places where they take up refuge...safe places...even from DOGS!

Even after dog play time...she continues to work the area outside the pasture gates. Methodical muttly dougal.


Fixins is still tracing the scent where the SnowShoe Hare has been...




Scent on the very air!

One of the early things I work with the Cow Dogs on is pointing in the direction I want them to search and saying to them "Find it!" You can begin teaching them to work with you by dropping a piece of food (cheese is nice!) on the floor and toe tapping it...instant reward for paying attention to silly human's directions. What I always figured is if I EVER dropped something like a set of keys in the deep snow...a clip for a coop door, etc. Would be nice that any of the dogs with me at the time would be able to roust the item outta the snow for me.


So with the bus kids...I have been doing the Twelve Days of Christmas theme since 2008. I like the song for all the birds in it and it is a repetitive thing which children seem to thrive on...kids like routines and something to build upon and look forward to. Heavens we even go the lil' ones practising on their counting number skills in this! Seems to work...no kids diving OFF the bus on the way...must be sorta OK???

So when Rick and I had the Exhibition Poultry Club...I made up a pear tree outta tenplast for the Christmas meeting...we had alot of fun that day..even strung cranberries and popcorn for the wild birds...a treat the club members could put out for not so fortunate wild birds, not so well to do as their own poultry project bird birds!

Gave each youth one of the days to place on the tree and we enjoyed that all immensely!

Now I have taken all these individual drawings I made up...each day the new item given...and have them on the bus for the count down of the last twelve days of school. Not really fair to skip days and such (weekends), so we now have 12 days left till holidays...so today was DAY 1 on the school bus.

I was quite amazed as one of the newbies to my Christmas Fest asked me about the picture of the strange bird (yeh yeh...no laughing at me art interpretations, eh! Jest wait till I peel the paint with my less than songbird like VOICE!

) on the bus, so them kids are still sharp...inquisitive and on the ball, too!


So under the same kinda time line...while the traditional time for the twelve days begins AFTER December 25th...(Dec 26 to Jan 6), I find that to be old news and not at all relevant. So I start BEFORE the grand day and have it all wrapped up BEFORE Christmas! That be me but to do things after Christmas...since now in modern times we seem to see the stores flogging this now even BEFORE Halloween...nothing is sacred now is it!

I am going to do a posting of my other Christmas 12 Days of Xmas beginning NOW (early early!) because I simply cannot predict when any internet service might go down or photos can't be uploaded...so even though it is not quite twelve days TO Christmas...I may happen to actually get the twelve days up before it really is Christmas Day! LOL

An introduction I suppose by posting my INTRO LETTER is in order here firstly...so here is the first page I sent out as my Christmas greeting...coupla years back (unlike the pear tree ones above...2008...we did not even HAVE swans back then...I am guessing I would have coloured MY swan BLACK and not WHITE if'n back in 2008, we'd have had our two pairs...tee hee!).

Now one does realize...some people say that the way the song goes and is sung...one does end up with a dozen pear trees (dang near an orchard!) and quite the flocks, gaggles, bevies of birds too...LOL For it is on each day, you get the past gifts PLUS a new one...hee hee hee...depends on how "literal" your romantic partner is in this aspect!

There is an ongoing debate too regarding the pricing structure about say the milk maids, ladies/lords and drummers...costs of owning or renting them so to speak! LOL This year it is the same as last...$58 for the eight milk maids...cheep cheep cheapy rentals I am betting as the Wikipedia site above simply states in regards to the milk maids; "The maids are assumed to be unskilled laborers earning the Federal Minimum Wage." ACK...no wonder I don't hear too many people mention when they grow up (past the benefit of NOT getting small pox, just the milder form as in cow pox!)...they want to be MILK MAIDS!

I personally have a very NARROW interest in the prices of this seasonal song and find the costs of the birds to be MY main focus...I do ponder the five golden rings are probably just that, rings fer yer fingers made of gold and not the historical FIVE GOLDEN RING NECK PHEASANTS! **

So while this may not interest others (like the ongoing changes in the price of rice in China) it does me! Not that I can ever justify all the $ and time and effort plugged into the black hole I call this Hobby Farm...BUT I can revel in the aspect that the price of hens and geese is on the rise...bully to that!

Tara u are a trip....maybe a whole vacation...on the topic of communicating with animals: u should try to find the program (or book) titled "my life as a turkey". Its very cool and educational. That dude learned to speak like a turkey. He roosted in trees
