Chapter 35
"You sure about this," Rupert asked Bella.
"Yeah. It's better than being told what do do by your parents, after all," Bella replied boldly.
"Alright. If you're certain nothing will happen," Rupert responded warily.
"Come on, Rupert, don't be so eggy! We can have our chicks, then come back," Bella reasoned.
"Alright," Rupert sighed.
A chilly wind skipped across the countryside, with the moonlight leading the way. They missed their warm, cozy cave, and their family, but at least it meant that they were where they wanted to be- together.
"Where is my daughter?!?!?!" Sunny screeched as she ran around the cave in alarm.
"Can't you let a cockerel get some shut eye," Fenix Jr. bickered. Everyone ignored him.
"Bella and Rupert are both missing!!" Gingernut reported.
"Those featherbrains!!!!" Felix shouted.
"And I know exactly what they're up to," Fenix said angrily.
"Fenix Jr., Sonny, Jazzy, Gingernut, and Sunny, you're all coming with me. Felix, protect the pullets while we're gone." Fenix ordered.
1 week later
"Here's some worms," Rupert said, bringing 5 earthworms to the broody Bella. They had taken residence high atop a large redwood tree hole. There, Bella laid a clutch of 13 eggs and was sitting there, waiting for them to hatch while Rupert got her food and water.
"Rupert," Bella began, "do you think we should be thinking of names?"
"We should call one of the girls Bella Jr.," Rupert suggested.
"Haha, Jr.'s are for boys, silly," Bella joked.
Suddenly, Bella sensed something.
