Hi everyone. I've raised birds for many years. Lovebirds, cockatiels. I have one yellow Indian Ringneck parrot.
Anyway, we moved to the country 20 years ago and we've had yard chickens most of the time. We just traded our flock of Bantams (with a little silkie) for some other birds. I've got 2 RIR hens, an orpington that looks white and golden-ginger. An Ameraucana hen. One of these hens is solid jet black. A phoenix rooster (yeah, I know, not a serious bird), one "sex link" and I'll get the rest added to the tread asap. Our chicken run is about 12x12 and 7' high. One corner is a large cedar so it's cool...they have shelter and shade. Two homemade coops, basic and roomy. I keep wheat straw down too. It's clean and looks nice. In fact, it's quite nice imho. We cut the cedar poles ourselves on our property. All in all I only cost for the chicken wire, so the whole thing was a little over a hundred dollars. WOOT!
So here I am. These are new breeds for us and I'm going to have to learn more about them. Not a n00b exactly, but .........new birds. I wanted bigger eggs.
My bantams were heavy layers. Those gals were amazing....he got some great birds.
