Johnston Island squid pics and video

Wow, I never knew Johnston Island was there. You were halfway to visiting Teila and me! It wasn't until I looked at a map that I realised how far off the coast Hawaii is from America. (Geography is not my strong suit)!

Thanks for sharing the photos. I love that one of the squid. They are fascinating little creatures. Love those tropical fish too. :love

Actually, I have been closer... Bougainville, Papua New Guinea, south of there to the Indespensible Reefs, which are south of Rennell, Peleiu, Kwajalien, Eniwetok, Guam, Wake and Midway Island. From 1990 to 1996. Spent 3 years on Johnston Island, 91 to 94. Spent time on all the Hawaiian Chain Islands, a month at a time. Work? Uhh....hhmm, "what's that"? I loved it!:love

You must've seen some beautiful and amazing things in your travels then. I'm a terrible traveller but I do love to find out about the different corners of the world. We don't mind if you have more photos to share. :D

Well, the bad part was I had a terrible itch to start raising birds again (7 year itch) so in '97 started raising birds again. As far as photos, if I can find them, I will but the flood of '98 destroyed everything I had...the Guadelupe River, was over a mile wide where I was and 58' deep. (theres that water theme again) Pictures, trophies, furniture, reef tanks, everything gone. Had a 2 story house on the "high side" of the river, it was completely under rushing water. These pics just happened to be on a computer that was at my parents.

Oh, that must've been heartbreaking!

Yep, gut wrenching, looking where your home should be and nothing but a slab, and even that was moved about 12ft. from it's original place. Nearly all my cattle, chicken, duck, turkey, quail, pheasant, geese, and Emu pics gone, all the ribbons from shows, trophies, etc...gone!:barniebut my dog and I were safe. I rebuilt, 17 ft. above the ground and as soon as it was completed, sold it and move up on a hill, where I am today.:celebrate

Gut wrenching for sure. At least you are now out of reach of anything similar happening. I can't believe your foundations got shifted so much!

Recently there has been flooding down the way in New Zealand and it's made us think very carefully about what we'll be looking for in our new property (when we finally get our current place painted and fixed up which seems to be taking forever as renovations tend to do). Then we can talk pheasants! The kids are very keen to have some Golden ones, though, of course, our son likes the original colour (because it has red on it - his favourite colour) and our daughter likes the Yellow Goldens (because her favourite colour is yellow). I'll just have to talk hubby into building us some aviaries.
