I joined a little while ago but was really shy about saying hello. The day I joined was a really bad day for us here and I didn't want to start out that way...We had three chickens from last year that we raised from days old chicks, Americaunas, Teedy, Beaker, and Cleo. We came home from work and went out to the greenhouse where I put their coop for the winter to feed and water the girls and to collect any eggs only to find Cleo dead in her nest box...no truama, no injuries..nothing. She was just gone. Needless to say many tears later and after examining her..no egg binding..no sign of anything else wrong we had a funeral for our sweetie and I went in search of information of any kind to see if I could figure out what could have happened to our girl. This is how I ended up here. I do have to say you all have been very informative and I have enjoyed reading many threads on this sight. We have never figured out what happened to Cleo, except to say that even as a chick she was really quiet and would sleep a lot when the others were running and exploring etc.We think that egg laying might have been just too much for her. She was our best layer and after reading many threads on here and reading more books on chickens we did add more fresh organic greens to the girls diets. Our other girls are healthy and happy and we have purchased two new chicks for this year. We welcomed Perci and Andi to our flock this last week.
