We finally have succeeded in joining our "impulse buy" polish hens with our larger flock. It was NOT easy, but much advice from this forum was helpful. It required the unfortunate demise of several roosters, but our four polish hens are now integrated with our larger flock, and seem to be very happy. It was heartwarming last evening to see that these four hens were roosting inside the coop with all our other hens (and our one rooster, who is a very lucky young man!). We knew that "Lucky," one of our polish hens would do well - she is named Lucky for a reason - she has survived an attack by our cat when she was 2 days old, the accidental placing of her water into a jar that had held gasoline (hence her pal's name of "Octane"), she got a cold from being stuck in the rain, wandered off too far from home and rescued by a neighbor, and getting her leg stuck in the tractor and spending a night hanging upside-down. That is one lucky chicken!
