Just joined today! Whenever I google a question about incubating eggs, I get many knowledgeable answers from BackYard Chickens. I've had chickens for years off and on but this is my first year to incubate eggs. So exciting. I have mostly Silkies and a couple of Frizzle Cochin roo's that came with them. Thats outside the house. Inside I have parrots, so lots of feathers!

:welcome It’s wonderful to have you here!
What kind of incubator are you using? I’m surprised you don’t have broodies year round with Silkies in the coop!
Thanks for the welcome. Funny you should mention broodies. We have just moved full time to the farm and all I have are 4 scruffy mixed breed hen pets running around.
I bought a couple of cages of Silkies at the local auction. Didn't get to talk to the sellers. I hadn't done my research on Silkies, I just bought them on a whim.. That was before Christmas. Most of those silkies ended up crowing, and the one I thought was sick turned out to be a show girl. Still I had managed to get a couple of girls in there, so I partnered them up with the rowdiest same color roos. Speedily turned all of my dog pens into chicken coops. When I cracked eggs, some of them were fertile so I bought a Pro Series Model 2540. And I stopped picking up eggs for a while. My little red girl is sitting on hers!
