Hey everyone, newbie here from Asheville NC! I got my first chickens a little less than a year ago. Started with a flock of 6, down to 2 
but learning to keep going! My survivors are a barred rock named Maude and a wyandotte (some kind of splash) named Mabel. I got them as pullets from a local chicken lover. I built my own coop and run which was supremely fun and rewarding, and hope to try keeping about 12 hens this year.
I knew I would like the fresh eggs, but I didn't know I would like the chickens themselves so much! Such characters!
I'm a software engineer by trade, have 4 littles (age 1-7), 2 outdoor cats, and no free time left
