Juice cleanse

My husband did the same thing. I can blame Netflix. He lasted a bit on the diet but one big problem we found was how much waste was leftover from the veggies and fruit for the little amount of juice you got. We went out and bought what we thought was a large amount of veggies and fruit to last a while and it was pretty much used up in a couple days. It costed a lot of money for the stuff.

I had to go to the grocery store one day and I came across in the veggie section some high priced juices. I looked at the ingredients and most of them contained only the fruit/veggie and water. They didn't really have to many choices to choose from. Mainly just had carrot in them. I bought a few for my husband to try and he liked them and used some to mix with his home made juice to make a bigger glass of it.

In the end he did eat some solid fruits/veggies due to them not making much juice in the juicer and to keep his jaw muscles active. He only lost a pound in two weeks and felt awful the whole time like he was low on energy and just wanted to sleep. He decided it wasn't the diet for him.

I just took into consideration the amount of money that I would have wasted on fast food, junk food, unhealthy snacks and regular meals and the cost was worth it. And the I looked at the most important thing .... And that was my overall health, so the cost of the fruits and veggies was not a problem.

The juice cleanse is not for everyone. But it has given me a tremendous boost on my weight loss for when I begin exercising. I will definitely do the juice cleanse again.

We live in a small area so the grocery stores around here seem pretty high on the prices. We spent about $50 on veggies/fruits and three days later he just had a couple items left. He might had more luck if he bought certain types of stuff that might get more juice out of them or a better juicer. He probably would have stayed on the diet longer but his juicer broke on a small piece of carrot when it was suppose to be able to have no problem with them. We took it back and they didn't have anymore juicers.

We are currently living with his parent's till we get our house built and his mom almost only eats candy and soda. So it is hard for him to last on a diet here since there is junk food around. He has a weight bench and bought an elliptical this summer but doesn't really have a place to use them. The upstairs is to weak so the floor shakes and his mom is a chain smoker downstairs so he can't work out down there. Once we get moved out he will probably lose weight. I'll be cooking then since I'll have my own kitchen with space to work at and I'll hide any sweets I get for myself.

I don't think that I could have done it if I had a family and had to cook each day. The smells and aromas would have made me cave in. So I understand your situation 100%. I hope that you all will be able to get things going once you all move out.

I ended up with about five cups of each juice. The fruit juice is, of course, delicious. The vegetable juice is a little "iffy." I think I probably should've left out either the kale or beet. Yesterday, I made of juice of carrots, celery and spinach - and it was really good - although the color wasn't very appetizing. It will take us a couple days to drink all that juice. We are not doing a cleanse - but rather drinking the juice more as a supplement & to replace one meal each day.

I have two concerns: (1) it seems wasteful. There is so much pulp left over. I feed some to my chickens - but it's too much to give them all of it. (2) The juicer makes such a mess. It's a big chore to get everything washed and prepped for juicing and then to clean all the juicer parts afterwards. I'm just not certain I'll continue this long-term since it seems so tedious. I'm hoping that after I juice a little more, it'll get simpler

I have to say, though - some of the juices are absolutely delicious!
 
I will have to say after doing some more research on juicing vs. blending, my preference for taste, and budget. I think I'm going to buy a decent blender tomorrow and start making some smoothies so I can replace some meals. I'm going to try to use SOME of the recipes for juicing and see if I can't blend a nice healthy, good tasting smoothie, with FIBER. LOL

I hope you don't mind if I post my experiences/results in this topic.
 
I have been lurking on this thread since it's first posting. OK ya'll, ya' got me. I got a Jack LaLane juicer for Christmas and tried it out this weekend. DH loves the fruit juices, with a little veggies included.

Our favorite so far:

1 sweet potato
6 carrots
2 apples
1 orange
1 nectarine

I will go to the store this week and load up on veggies, the "Mean Green" sounds like it would be good. We probably won't go 100% liquid, but will be very careful with the rest of our diet. Neither one of us are what you would consider overweight, we just want to slim down a little and this sounds like a good way to do that. Soooooooooooo............here we go!!!
