You really had 4 hatch the night of day 22? Oh that gives me hope! I stare at the eggs and could swear I see some moving. Just keep checking and...no pips. Seems like years since I set them in lockdown.

Yep, 2 Cochins and 2 Polish. My temp was 99.5 at the top of the eggs the whole 3 wks, I think that's considered a tiny bit on the low side because the middle of the eggs would've been a bit lower. I figured that's why some weren't ready for an extra 24 hrs. I'm almost into Day 25 now and none of the remaining eggs have done anything. I'll give them a proper burial in the yard after Day 26. I can't stand to just throw them in the trash

Edit: BobbieChicks, your kids must be thrilled!!

No we only got the one little sweetheart. I think it is going to be a spoiled little chick. I do have more eggs in the incubator but they are not due for a couple more weeks.
I am sad for the little chick lives that did not make it. I had a lot that quit along the way. I put 4 into the incubator that I was sure had live chicks in them, I even saw them moving. But they did not even internally pip. I did dry incubation for the first 18 days and then upped it to 65% on lockdown. I did learn a lot though.
Here is what I am doing different this time:
I am only candling on day 7, 14 and 18 when going into lockdown.
I wash my hands and use antibact solution before touching the eggs.
I am going to try hatching in egg cartons this time. I wonder if the eggs going from egg turners to laying flat and lower down hurt them.

I am still using shipped eggs because I have no choice. If I can just get a few of the breeds that I want then next year I will use my own eggs. i know hatching rate is way lower with shipped eggs.

Here is our little cutie pie on his second day. He is even a little fluffier today.

Oh my, and she's certainly adorable, isn't she??
This was my 1st try, too. Also with shipped eggs. My hatch rate was only 40% but I did get 8 Cochins out of the deal and in my most earnest prayers I prayed for even just ONE Cochin. So I'm very happy. Plus we got the 4 Polish. My (grown) daughter already put 4 more eggs in the incubator. These eggs were from our laying hens here. So we'll see how it goes this time. I told her to get really good at it because I want to get some Yokahama eggs and Showgirl eggs local and hatch them! There's 10 times the bond with hatched chicks vs 2 day old chicks that come in the mail. So I do want to hatch them.
Your little girl (or boy) will be spoiled rotten, Christie. And I bet that's going to be just fine with her.

That's a very, very cute chick, and It proves you can do it! Keep at it. Crank them babies out! Don't get discouraged. I love dry incubation, but where you live it might require more moisture, keep at it. You'll find what works for you.
:]

This is my favorite chick, I call it Yen-Yang, due to the beak being half black and the colors on the head kinda opposing that.

it's a cochin banty. Frizzle I think... I'll let you know.

I bought a new coop from the Amish who are local. I hate to pay extra for something I can make myself, but I can't find the time. So I'm pretty happy with this one, and all I have to do is paint it and keep it clean. Of course, it will be red with white trim!

Thank you! I will keep trying. I hate it when I feel like something has kicked my butt. It just makes me want to try harder until I have accomplished it.
Our little chick is so tame! He just jumps on your hand and stands there. So cute.
