July 13, 2011 Hatch Day! STARTED!!!!

I'm just butting in here left and right...how high has your humidity been during incubation time? I only have my humidity in the low 40's and high 30's..I've found that it helps evaporate a lot of moisture that needs to within the egg..too high a humidity doesn't allow it at times. I do more of a dry hatch. Anyway, if you have been lower, then 50 is good. I only go up to around 55 when I lockdown.
The temp is important that you don't go to high. You don't want 102 ever..Again, lockdown, they will be fine with it around 99.5, or even as low as 99.0. If you go low or high for a short time, you should be fine. Sounds like you are watching it. If you aren't sure what it is going to do during the night, better low than high, so try and tweek it to a lower setting.
Hope you all have great hatches...going to keep watching. Can't even remember how I got on here. I know I answered someone else on here, but how did I get here?? Oh well..you all sound fun..so here I stay, and watch for pictures!!! I have some duck eggs to go into lockdown tomorrow. Trying to get the humidity up now..my first time with the duck eggs..I'm excited to see them..hope they hatch!

Today is day 24. Last night we had one final egg that was hatching. I left it alone, made sure the humidity level was good (75%) and went to bed hoping to wake up to a new baby. When I got up this morning to check the membrane looked dried up and the chick didn't hatch. I took it out of the bator and it had died. I think it couldn't get out of the shell - I'm thinking somehow the outside membrane dried up. I'm so very' upset with myself. I should have helped the poor thing out last night instead. My heart is broken

My daughters heart will be broken today also. We had 9 successful chicks hatch, 1 that we had to help out that is still a little on the iffy side and at present still 5 more eggs in the bator. I'm grateful for what we had hatch but it still makes you want to just bawl when these babies don't make it. I guess tonight we will turn off the bator and lay the 5 eggs left to rest

I'm sorry to hear that LoveMyChicklets, do you think I may be a similiar situation here?

I should begin that I DID wake up to a beautiful BUFF duckling this AM...

He/She also has a little buddy that shouldn't be too much longer and I will post some more pics once they are all fluffy!

BUT as for my Leghorn, here's where I am at:

-Pipped yesterday AM.
-Little more advancement throughout the day but by nightfall last night this is what I had:

That's it's beak poking out and it was chirping, got up in the middle of the night, same thing, up this AM with a new duckling and still my little leggy has done NO more, but it's beak is still moving...
-How long do I leave it like this?
-Tomorrow is hatch day and I have 4 duck eggs already pipped and the one that just hatched so I am TERRIFIED

to open the bator...

I've read a MILLION times, don't interfere but is it stuck? I feel bad but don't dare jeopardize everyone else! HELP!

Adorable duckling!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG!!

I'm so new at this hatching that I'm not the person to answer that

I'm so sorry! What I can tell you is that my egg had the membrane intact but was dried up and white this morning. Didn't have a peep hole. Personally if I were you I'd wait on opening the bator. I think with my remaining eggs it's my fault for opening the bator too many times

Well she's broke thru the membrane, that little beak is sticking out and not doing much of anything else so I'm not sure if it's just stuck or can't wiggle it around, but being as it was the most active all day yesterday I'm just genuinely surprised that it hasn't progressed.

I'm still at approx. 75% humidity so the membrane shouldn't have dried out right???

Anyone else out there??? I wonder if it's just resting? Has it zipped anymore since yesterdays attempt?

I'm hoping someone else has something to say... I have heard it can take 24 hours or more sometimes but I'm such a newbie at this.

It has been 24 hrs since original pip, and the hole did get a little bigger to where it is now throughout the day but no progression since last night...
