July 18th "Due Date"! Anyone else?

Waiting is the worst part and this extreme heat doesn't help! Mine arrived yesterday after being shipped Monday. All were fine and are doing well. I was hoping they would arrive on Tuesday but they didn't so I felt like you do. Hopefully, you will get a phone call later today. Good luck with your order and keep us posted!

Do keep us updated! My fingers are crossed for you!! Remember, though, the chickies can take (and require) a great deal more of this heat than we can. I learned that by sitting in my garage all day, next to the brooder, where the chicks were perfectly content with the "perfect" 95-degree temps, and I was dying in the lower, ambient temp.
Just make sure you have the water ready for them and make sure they drink before eating.
I did a lot more worrying than it turned out I had to, due to the "late" shipment of my chicks--lost sleep and got my stomach all upset!
Everything turned out fine for us all, and I have no doubt your chicks will be fine, too!

WildflowerVA has the right idea--it would be soooo much easier to have the hens do the job of brooding than to go through all of this worry, having to rely on the USPS and hatcheries!

Wildflower, you really are living the dream!! Best of luck with your operation! Unfortunately, I can't have a rooster, but hopefully one day we'll be able to move somewhere that I can spread MY wings! LOL If this stinkin' economy ever recovers...

I'm so glad to hear she has perked up already! I was super worried last week too, this week i have calmed down a little

FYI don't be worried if you see watery poop in a week or so, it's normal and happens every 8th poop or so.

Since I'm not close to any place that I can buy the sav-a-chick stuff I bought a bottle of pedialyte from our local pharmacy (they didn't have Trivosol). How do I use it? Mixed or straight from the bottle? Should I have this as the first water for the chicks? I'm thinking that because they hatched Tuesday that by Friday they might be more stressed than normal that they could use the boost.....or not? Maybe I should drink it instead!!

Mix yourself a Pedialyte Vodka cocktail--that will do the trick! In fact, I wish I'd thought of that yesterday!

I don't know about Pedialyte, maybe someone else can answer that, but I'd definitely have it ready for their first drink.
I had my mixture ready upon their arrival and I'm going to continue to give it to them for the next 5 days.

Best of luck to you!!! Please post pictures and let us know! I was checking all day to see if you'd posted!

Now there's an idea! Over ice!! Believe me you probably won't need this forum to know my babies arrived

You can probably search the board for Pedialyte and see if someone has mentioned a specific dilution or not.
I wouldn't think there's a problem giving it to them straight, but I really wouldn't know. Maybe do half water/half pedialyte?
I've also read (In the book, "City Chicks") that some give sugar water when the chicks arrive--1/4 c. per quart of water.
Just give it to them for their first drink, though. You want to raise their sugar level, but not make them hyperglycemic.

I was going to purchase PolyViSol (without iron) online via Drugstore.com
They ship super-quick and you could get it in 2 days. It might be good to have on hand even if you don't have it for the first few days.
I may get it to keep on hand in my "chick medicine cabinet."

Even if they look worn out when you get them, don't be discouraged! The yellow (salmon) Faverolle chick in this picture had me really worried last night! But I guess she was just wiped out from the trip and needed a good night's sleep. Today she's been chowing down and drinking and scratching right along with the others.

Post master called at 6:45 this morning and said he had was holding hostages my chickies

They are all doing fantastic:bow: Cackle sent 1 chick additional for each of the breeds I ordered, so the count is 6 black sex-links, 6 red sex-links, 6 Delaware x hampshire, and 1 Delaware roo. They are absolutely gorgeous.....and I am not biased

They have already drank more than half a quart of water and are diving into their food. To i.d. the roo Cackle marked his head with red paint , which I tried to wash off thinking it was bloood and was getting ready to put antibiotic on him when I realized what it was....well, he has a clean head! Thanks to everyone....I do love this forum. How do I upload pics to here?

I have been thinking about you and your chicks since yesterday, almost afraid to come here and read a sad ending. I am soooo glad that you got them safe and sound! I think we all worried a year off of our life stressing about shipped chicks.
