***JULY HATCH-A-LONG come join in***

Yay, July thread!

July should prove to be a VERY interesting hatching month for me! I'm very excited. So far I have got:

5 Polish eggs set to hatch the 3rd
4 pekin mix duck eggs to hatch the 4th
9 pekin mix duck eggs to hatch on the 11th or 12th
8 Peacock eggs that god willing at least 1 will hatch on the 18th

I'm very excited about all of these and I'm hoping the staggered dates will work well enough. I will honestly be glad to get rid of the duck eggs from my incubator; they are an experiment for a friend who could not get any duck eggs to hatch in her incubator. Mine seems to have worked so far; they're still moving when candled anyway. Alternately, I am VERY excited about the peacock eggs, and am hoping that despite the somewhat strange shipping circumstances, at least a few will have survived and will be there when I candle them.

If these hatches go fairly well (especially if I can get any of the peacock eggs to hatch) I may be trying my hand at some pheasant eggs (providing I can locate golden and red golden hatching eggs within my funds).

They made it to you! Here's hoping they did survive.

How do peacock eggs compare to chicken eggs in size/shell thickness?

I am in! I have 36 shipped eggs due on the 8th. Blue, blue mottled and lemon blue cochin bantams. I am having thermostat heat consistency issues and waiting on a replacement part. I hope the eggs will be ok for the next few days (100.5- 98.7 digital thermometer resting on the turner- 102 to 100.5 on top of the eggs)- from my brand new Genesis 1588. UGH!

Yeah strangely they made it to me the day after it said they were delivered to another state entirely. Go figure.

As for their size, I thought they would be roughly the same size as my Pekin eggs (bigger, but about the same). Instead, I received 8 turkey sized eggs! Thankfully they still fit in my turner without touching the racks around them, but I had to space them every other holding space so that they wouldn't touch the eggs next to them. I guess it was a blessing in disguise that my second batch of polish eggs never started growing and I could pitch them.

I don't know about the shell thickness, but I'm guessing pretty thick compared to the chickens, just because of their size. Four of them are a darkish tan with brown speckles, two are a lighter brown with dark speckles, one is just a really pale tan and one is white. So with 4 kinds, it will be an exciting month!

Arrrg already incubator drama! Today the power went out for an hour...everyone on the street's power did. I piled a bunch of blankets on top of the bator. Hopefully the eggs didn't get too cold. We were just getting the generator fired up when we saw the power trucks roll up down the street to fix it lol.

Count me in. I have 18 chicken eggs due to hatch on the 4th and 10 duck eggs that are due to hatch on the 18th. I've got 13 BCM and 5 black sex link. The ducks are Silver Appleyard (shipped) and I may be getting some more chicken eggs. A lady on Craigslist was offering to loan her bator to a stranger to hatch some eggs for her and to keep some themselves. I have 14 holes left in my turner and told her that I would hatch them for her and I don't want any of the babies. That way no one can tear up her bator. Those are barred rocks I think.

This is great...count me in. First time ever to incubate, I have 9 duck eggs due July 14th. Seven Welsh Harlequin, 2 Rouen x Mallard. We shall see how it goes. Candled some of them day 6 and those are fertile. I'll continue to check the rest as I go along. Good Luck everyone.
