Hatch day around the 24th.
Six Lavender Orps and three B/B/S Orps. Two of the LO's and one of the BBS have badly ruptured air cells but I let them rest for twentyy four hours to see if they stabilize. The rest look better than they did when I first unpacked them so here's hoping.

I'm trying them in a carton this time. I haven't had any luck with shipped eggs before but I'm crossing my fingers and hoping the third time is a charm.

hon, if your cochins dont work out I can send you some just pay the shipping, I have bantam cochins, they are awesome moms and beautiful girls, they are mixed with golden sebright hens so they are making amazing birds, even my roo is a great bird. even if he can be a butthead.

I wanted to post from June 11 but I was too "chicken" and didn't want to jinx my first time EVER hatching eggs. My friend is the one who I should give all the credit to because he is the one that did the incubating for me but anyway.....he called me just minutes ago and I have a baby chick!!!!

One more is wiggling away so I am so eggscited!!!! Eggs went in on June 11 (my BD) and 1 hatched so far 9:51 p.m. Hawaii time!!

Is there a right and wrong place for the chick to make their pip? I have 11 eggs in. Yesterday 2 started. One in the big end of the egg and the other underneath the egg.(I noticed it only because of the shell pieces that were knocked off and laying on the wire.) Now this morning there are 6 others that have cracks. 4 seem to be at least close to the big end of the egg but the other two are more in the middle? Will they be ok?

Got seven, some of the light sussexs and some of the red. No idea how many of each because the mama keeps biting me which I am glad to see because that means she is a good mama hen.

Well, they are supposed to pip where the air sack is (usually the large end) but sometimes they just don't listen and they pip where-ever they feel like it. If their beak is out where they can breath, it doesn't *really* matter where they've pipped, but if they haven't got through the membrane and they're pipped someplace away from the air sack, you'll want to watch them very carefully. The chicks *are* breathing air at this point, so you definitely don't want them to drown in the egg from pipping in the wrong place and not being able to breathe like they would in the air sac portion.

You can also rotate the ones that pip upside down so they aren't facedown at the floor if they haven't progressed after the others hatch. Least, I do.

Day 20-

there are 2 fuzzy butts in my incubator!
1 Pure Light Brahma & 1 Light Brahma x Barred Rock.
5 others have visible pips,
only 2 eggs not doing anything yet.......

I think the hatcher is alittle warmer than it is supposed to be.....

Hello,
I posted pics of my new hatchlings from yesterday in the June thread. OOPS! Anyway, here they are. 3 eggs made it to lockdown and I thought all were questionable. I think my 5 yr old did something to one as it had and indentation/cracks coming off of it in the middle. It wasnt like that when it arrived. I figured I would try it anyway. It was the 1st to hatch. These are RIR/RSL mix. Setting more of these eggs from the same seller this evening. He replaced the whole 1st batch since not very many made it.

I had to help the 2nd one out lastnight. It stomach was so huge, never seen that before! Still not sure if this one will be ok. It falls over sometimes and cant get back up. But 1 of my ss hatchlings did that for the 1st week of its life and it is ok now. So:fl
