July Hatch-a-Long

So cute! What are they crossed with? I love my mixed breed babies, you never quite know what you're going to get! Our silkie x cornish game is my favourite!

All of them were sired by my Blue Wheaten Ameraucana rooster. Hopefully I'll get some girls out of this group so I can add some green egg layers to my flock!

Fingers crossed! I've got some araucana and copper marren eggs in my other incubator, they were kept in a big mixed flock so I'm hoping for a green egg layer!

Hatch complete! This last one is quite the little loudmouth. I did a quick wipe down of the incubator so the humidity would drop. Hopefully these last two will dry quickly and the last one will settle down once they’re all in the brooder.

All five are fluffed up and cuddled under their heat plate in the brooder. There is one that was running around, eating, drinking, and already boldly exploring the brooder this evening. I can't wait to see how they look in the morning after a good night's rest and recovery.

The eggs were set at around 4:30 pm three weeks ago today. I'm very happy that they were kind enough to all hatch last night/today so that I can get a good night's sleep before I have to be at work at 7 am tomorrow!

While these chicks were hatching the weasel somehow managed to get into my locked down run and eat one of my two remaining hens and bite part of the beak off the other. I’m keeping these babies in my bedroom until further notice :( :(

Oh no! I'm so sorry.

Just had a little one hatch this morning, one is zipping and the other is taking it's time! The one that hatched this morning has got a bit of a bloody umbilical cord that's sticking out a bit. I've read that it can happen sometimes and it should sort itself out, but I'm still worrying!

My black splash ameraucana has pipped now so in the home stretch. All three in the brooder now. It’s crazy how much they grow in just 12 hours! Two of these are autosexing so I’m pretty sure I have one roo (the black one with white head spot) and one pullet (the darker chipmunk chick). The third was a mystery egg...hatched from a greenish blue egg, pink legs, light chipmunk coloring. Left side of this pic. We named that one Coconut ;) 5B2DCC55-7496-4218-936F-87F67C0906CD.jpeg
