July Hatch-a-Long

One of my chicks has been like this for 15 hours. Just the leg sticking out. My chicken pro friend told me how to pick a little shell off to help it. Stop if I see red! It’s screaming in there... so it can breath. I’m nervous. Wish me luck!

I loved reading through this! Should have joined in - I usually just search for what I am looking for :barnie but will join next time I do some hatching. It's very informative and of course .. babies! Who doesn't love looking at babies of all kinds :love - it's also nice to see successful hatches with odd's stacked against them.

Will continue to read every page in here :pop

I've got a duckling in the brooder and one almost hatched in the bator :jumpy

edit: sorry to just jump in here but had to say hello

I’ve got some white layer duck eggs in the bator. They’re shipped eggs. Out of 12, 1 came cracked & 2 never developed. 4 were quitters at different stages. I’m left with 5 on day 23. I saw movement tonight in all but 1. They were all set the same day but seem to have a HUGE variance in size. One looked like it was pushing on the membrane to pip, but the others are no where near its size. Should I go into early lockdown??

I fell asleep watching the eggs in the incubator... My son thinks I'm crazy...
I've hatched many chicks in other incubators that you couldn't see anything. So watching the Serama eggs turn in the Brinsea is relaxing lol.
I'm hoping for a much better hatch rate... Out of 50 eggs over the year I've gotten 2.

I would do that if I had an incubator. It's so fascinating.

Also: I love my Seramas.

Time flies when you have baby chicks! Mine are two weeks old today. I think I’m starting to be able to tell which ones are blue wheaten but not 100% sure yet. One is much smaller and feathering in more slowly than the others; he/she seems fine otherwise, though. They’re coming off heat today (I keep my house’s thermostat set at 77 in the summer) and will move outside to start getting to know the adults next week. They grow up so fast!
