July Hatch-a-Long

Today was my day 7 candling! I was super excited to get to do it. I ended up doing it earlier than i planned. Below are a few favorites.
Maryland 1 is my favorite out of the bunch there.

Texas 5 is my favorite from my Texas batch mainly because it was doing a lot of dancing in the shell.

Hello everyone! Happy July! I have 24 Blue/Black/Splash-Laced Red Wyandottes in Lockdown, and the first pip and peeping is afoot! :jumpy I will keep you all updated!
Also, I have 9 assorted color bearded silkies in lockdown, due to hatch on 7/4, and
a bigger batch of paint/buff paint/showgirl silkies due to hatch later in the month.
Oh, and all of them are shipped eggs!

Did my official Day 7 candling early this morning! There are six that look really good and three that I’m not sure about. I couldn’t get good photos, so I’m going to keep watching to see how they look. I did take a photo after I marked the air cells. Compared to examples I’ve seen, I think they’re right on track. What do you all think?

The next two weeks are going to be the longest two weeks ever.

I think they look correct for 7 days. Mine will be hard to mark on the 7 shipped eggs. The air cells are odd shaped on that batch. The SF and mixed eggs should look like yours when I candle on Thursday.

I think they look good too but this is only my second hatch. The darker shelled eggs can be hard to see until they are more developed. I had a Marans egg last time that I really didn’t know until it didn’t hatch that it wasn’t going to. This time I have two chocolate Orpington that are still iffy for me. Hoping I see something on day 7 tomorrow.

Thanks for the reassurances, everyone! I'm very anxious about this hatch, not just because it's my first time using an incubator but because I really want/need at least one pullet from the SF eggs to replace my beloved "Puff". The RIR eggs were thrown in just for fun; they aren't quite as precious to me.

I hope you get what you need and are looking for sending positive thoughts your way.

I didn’t see a Hatch-a-Long for July so i figured I would make one.

I set 32 eggs last night in my homemade incubator. Their hatch date is seeming to dally on the froth of July.

Happy hatching
Darn I just finished hatching out eggs maybe I might hatch more Blue Partridge Brahmas in thre begging of August

I adore my SF hens. My SF rooster, Pierre, never stops chattering and humming (he's sweet but incredibly strange compared to my other roosters...). My SF hens are very friendly and act like they don't belong with the other chickens. They follow me around begging for attention and chatting - it sounds like they're asking me questions, lol. I only had them separated with Pierre for 10 days before I started to collect eggs to hatch so I'm not sure what I will get. SF mixes are sweet though too, the faverolles' personality seems to be genetically prominent:) I sure hope you get at least one female from your lost hen. Sending you good hatching wishes!

Agree about darker eggs. I've had marans eggs that I never saw a single vein but hatched out perfect chicks. I always leave the dark ones in just in case:)
