July Hatch-a-long

how many total did you have and how many hatched.

I started out with 24, 5 were infertile, 1 had veins around day 12, but when I checked on day 17, they were gone, so I threw those away. I went into lockdown with 18, hatched 15, assisted 1 one last night =16 hatches. The first one hatched exactly 24hrs after lockdown, & died after a couple days - I think it's because the cord didn't heal right. I just don't know. It was very active & alert up until when I found it. Also it could have been the heat. I had a fan running in the garage & someone unplugged it. So I plugged it back in. Ugh so 15 out of 18 that is not bad for my first time.

just checked my eleven eggs and all look good some with smaller air cell than others but moving .  so i added water and put them in for lock down

I'm so glad to read this, here to cheer you on, let's go little fuzzies!!

The day before Lockdown I set it all up then on day 18 I went into lockdown- & I planned on doing it at the exact hour, but something came up & I had to go out of town, so lockdown 3 hours "late" gradually building up the humidity. 24hrs later, I got my first hatch! That evening & the next day the majority came, last night & early into this morning 2 more, & a couple of stragglers left but I honestly I think they're dead. There is an eggy sort of smell coming out of my bator now, I wonder if its those 2 that haven't hatched.

I just noticed one already starting to rock pretty good. I'm going to go ahead and lockdown because I certainly ont want one to hatch early and get stuck in the turner. Good luck with the rest of your hatch!

so sad for you!

me too i really need some good things this way.

and yes you have had a very good hatch. take pictures and post will love that. by the way what are the breed of your chicks. lol

I took pictures but my daughter is using my phone at the moment. I will compile the pictures of chick to hen together so you can see the results. I guess I would call them hybrids unless I can invent a a breed out of them LOL & hopefully some olive eggers, if not, I'll try to breed for olive eggers next generation.
