July Hatch-a-long

Ducky is out! I think it was a little sticky though, as it literally exploded from the shell. It was like it stretched itself out in there and it just cracked into bits and came off. It seems strong though, and it definitely has a healthy set of lungs! I'll post pics when it dries off

Fantastic! Can't wait for updates!

The two amigos!
Awwww! Good luck with the rest of your hatch!
I can see it now. "Duct tape use #679: crafting a bandage for cracked eggs to rescue your hatchling."
LOL!
Today I got in a new batch of eggs. 5 Polish, 4 Easter Eggers, 3 Langshans, 2 FCM, 1 Sultan and 12 Dark Cornish (for my friend). My friend asked me to hatch some for her. ( I lured her with chick cuddles and seeing my them hatch. Then I offered to hatch for her. She has know idea it's chick crack.) One of her's was cracked. I would have tossed it but I was inspired by the duct tape story. I don't know where my duct tape is so I improvised. I used a finger nail repair kit. I left the backing on to make it stronger.
Interesting! Sure hope it works! I'm rooting for ya!
I've got my first pip! It's on the egg that was too dark to see movement and had a weird side air sac. Almost tossed it at the last candling but its olive with dark spots. Too pretty to give up on. Glad I didn't!
Yay!
X2!

Good luck all hatching today

I cracked one of my eggs this last batch when I dropped my thermometer on it about day 10, I covered it with candle wax.

I hope your little egg makes it! My duct tape egg had a hole on the air cell, so I think that played a big part in its survival. I'm not sure how it would have faired if I'd broke it on the side or bottom. :fl for you! Ducky's doing great this morning, fluffy and cute. The mobile website is being a butt about uploading my pics, but I'll keep trying. I also woke up to one more chick running around the bator. The 3 off them have apparently been playing soccer with the other eggs all night, so I have no idea what's going on with the rest of them. I'm well into day 22 now, so I may candle them in a bit to see if they're still alive. I heard lots if tapping last night while the others were hatching, but can't see any pips or anything, so...... I dunno :/

I forgot I have 1 splash colored Americana, looks white and lavender but is young yet 3 months. It was thrown in on a deal buying BO chicks. Oh forgot I had those too Ughs can't even keep track of them all.

Cute story: 2 years ago I bought a silkie/Cochin bantam roo and a black Cochin hen. Well last year my son took her to the petting zoo they have yearly at his school. He brings Maria home and he's acting like a roo. Within the week started crowing. He's now named Jose. I bought him some Cochin bantam hens for breeding but he wanted nothing to with them. He was treating me and my daughter like his hens, doing the rooster strut for us and bringing us goodies. Anyhow he's very tame rides on my shoulder while cleaning coop and such. So 3 months ago my daughter thought it would be funny to put him in with the 25
-week old chicks we had in another pen and he raises all those babies. We just let them free range last week and he's taking good care of them. He's apparently going to be no good for breeding but will make a good saroget(sp ) mother/father for my chicks.

Jose is the black Cochin bantam on lower left with his BO and barnyard chicks.
AWW thats so cute!! a stay at home DAd!!!

So, I had 9 eggs left. Candled them and 4 are still alive. The other 5 were fully developed, had absorbed their veins and yolks. They just never pipped. Internally or externally. They weren't malposistioned. I don't know what happened there. But, while I was doing an eggtopsie on them, another chick hatched out in the incubator :gig I checked the egg and didn't see a pip, weird. It looks a bit early too. Its yolk is absorbed, but there was quite a bit of blood. There are 3 left to batch, I'm going to keep an eye on them. This is the weirdest hatch I've ever had. The egg with the duct tape band aid hatches just fine, the eggs that were perfectly intact don't do squat and now this early hatchling. It doesn't look good, but I'm going to leave it in the bator ad hope it survives. Oh well, I think after these last few eggs do whatever, I'm going to put my incy away for the year.
I've got 2 broodys now though, so I'm all in for the Aug hatch! They're sitting on 10 Sizzle eggs :D

Day 21 8 am HATCH DAY ! ive got some action
About 5 eggs pipping .
I dont know if I should be excited.
I had some palomino Bantam Brahamas my grand daughter loved but too many chickens around here I had an offer and sold them all then collected the eggs that were in the coop.
BUT.... other free rangers would sneak in and lay there too.
When the pals left they had never had a fertile egg or not one that ever hatched in a few months since they had been laying.
These hatching are the group I gathered from that coop so hopefully
fl.gif
one or 2 are bantam Brahamas or my grand daughter will be mad at me.
Thing is those little mutts really hatch well and all these pips ....im thinking are them.
Well who knows..guess ill find out by tomorrow anyway

So far my LAMS arent pipping but more often than not my chicks are a day late so im not worried

Just hope I put the right set into lockdown as I have another set in the other bator I got these out of , that have another 5 days before hatch. GUH.
Ive had some surprise hatches in the non- locked down bators before.Wont be a first !

DANG! DID MESS UP! !
