I know! I was thinking that same thing- today both little roos were sparring, something I've not seen them do & the little sizzle was holding his own against Sugar Peeps- soooo maybe he was able to get to the hen a few times? I would love to have babies hatch from both roosParthridge sizzles would be cute![]()
I had to look up what a sizzle was, then I learned about frizzles and frazzles. LOL I have a lot to learn! I would love to see what a partridge x silkie/sizzle looks like, full grown. PLEASE post pics
It's not bad, I've had it happen before. Sometimes it's due to your temp being too high- but IF it's bantam eggs- especially silkies they tend to hatch a day or 2 early.Mine are due to hatch in 2 days and one just pipped the shell. Is that bad? It's only day 19 since they went into the incubator.
This can happen if your temp is too high or humidity too high. Also if they pip the shell & it takes too long to zip you can have this. Sorry it happened to you- hope your chicks make it!I posted this in a thread and didn't get any repsonses, I was hoping someone here could offer some insight:
This is my first hatch out of a homemade incubator that did a really great job at maintaining 99-100 degrees. I had 11 bantam eggs and 13 welsummer eggs.
Lockdown, day 18, started last Thursday. The next day (day 19) 3 of the bantam eggs hatched. Many of the other bantam eggs had pipped, some even zipped half of the egg! Then the next day all the eggs died, except two.
By Monday, day 22, had two bantam eggs that we could see the chicks moving and breathing, but they just wouldn't progress. One had a large hole and the other was completely zipped and just wouldn't hatch. Tonight, day 22 we decided to help them hatch. The membrane was stuck to their eyes and feathers, they couldn't move. We rinsed them off and they have started to improve.
So we decided to open the other bantam eggs that had died. Same thing, the membrane was stuck to them. What happened? The first 18 days I kept the humidity around 30-35 percent, and then in lockdown it's been 72-75 percent.
Also the night we put them in lockdown, even putting hot water in the humidity tray, it took about 10 hours for the temp to get back up to 99. It stayed between 80-90 until it finally got back up to 99.
Now as far as the Welsummer eggs, here it is day 22, we have not seen any pip or movement. I've taken the bantam eggs out, got 5 chicks, two that we helped hatched. What should I do with the welsummer eggs? They are still in the incubator, and when I candled them on day 18 I saw several with very good looking air cells.
Lucky You!!!such neat news...........................![]()
I have shipped eggs comingand discovered one of my hens has gone broody................I am soooo grateful
I would take out the dead chick & the live one- but misting eggs tends to make them dry out faster. What I do if I have to open the bator is add a warm wet sponge or warm wet paper towels to keep the humidity loss to a minimum.Get it out and get out the live ones, open quickly and mist the eggs still in there.
I totally agree & it never looses it's appeal!I was blown away by that baby rolling out of the shell. I am 67 and had never seen a chick hatch. To be a part of that whole event was humbling
