Everyone is sold out for the season because they lost 2 batches of poults I have to wait until next year, and I'm not sure which hatchery these people get them from. What happens is they wait for enough amount of requests to order the turkeys and order them through a hatchery I guess I could do the same but I don't know very many people in the city who want to raise turkeys lol Yes, bad business on the hatchery. I can't believe they lost the invoice, then sold all the poults after charging for them. UGH! Also, if this is the same hatchery they get their chickens from, I was sold barred rocks, only to find out they were black sex links, sold as araucanas, only to find out they were Ameraucanas, and a RIR which is - well - not sure. New Hampshire, more than likely a hybrid with RIR in it & I had to put down my BO at 2 years of age (because of internal laying).... My friend has true RIR and they're 8 years old, that lay eggs every single day. The only hen that now lays an egg for me every day is my black sex link, all her eggs hatched too. I just got lucky with her. They are all around age 2 and they only lay 2-3 times a week - the first year I had them they were laying every day.. I am done with hatcheries for good. Backyard breeders from here on out.

Been there! I only got hatchery stock because I wasn't aware of the chicken community around me. Closest breeders are about a half hour away, so not too bad. I'm glad I found a more local chicken forum, so now I can get pretty much what I want & have met some nice folks too!

oh no it seems lethargic. the cord fell off and I put iodine on it, itlooks really good I don't understand

About Late hatching...my experience
:Last fall i hatched out chicks ... was addicted ,still am but less however always someone wants some chicks i dont have available so i hatch them. Like others here always some reason NOT to stop and keep the bator going REALLY REALLY want to stop the incubating/ brooder-ing. AAHH
Now more lace lav orp eggs are on the way from a spring swap!...MORE incubating.

Anyway I digress.... got cold out couldnt put them in the cold so about 10 chicks at least spent the winter in my spare bathroom.Hatched confident we'd have an early spring like year before.NOPE
.Well by March i had chickens crowing in the bathroom and 2 hens started to lay eggs. I had to build huge cages in there double deckers to keep them in until it got warm enough for them to take the outside air An unbelievable mess. Never EVER again .

So sorry! Have you tried a bit of sugar water for chick to drink? Something with electrolytes?

I have Leghorns that are 7 years old and lay daily. The comets or w e they are called are just coming 2 and have already slowed down. We have some other production reds that don't lay very well at 2.
Which im not overly upset about as before this hatch I was up to 117+10=127 chickens, by end of week should be another dozen if goes well. Btw 10th chick just hatched so 3 to go.

Wow! You have 127 chickens?! How big of an area do you need for that many chickens?

Yowza! You win! I thought I had it bad when I started incubating for first time in January. Brooder in basement, but still. Ugh, the dust! Couldn't wait for them to graduate to grow-out coop! Now my mega brooder is in garage. Much better!

Oh, they are so CUTE! I can't wait for my six to hatch. I have no idea what kind of chickens they are, it's a mystery batch. Got 3 brown eggs, 1 tan egg, 1 almost white egg, and a greenish egg.

I've been giving them rooster booster vitamins + electrolytes since they've been out of the brooder, I can also try giving her sugar water. yesterday she seemed fine eating and drinking... I switched out the buddy I saw it kept pecking at the area where the cord was... now she's with a loud chirper, and now she's chirping back. I'm hoping that will keep her stimulated. They're laying together. under a lamp inside the house. She's also breathing a little faster than the others. I tried giving her a little bit of water but she didn't want any. put it on my finger and dropped it on her beak, I didn't even see her move her beak at all... All the other chicks are doing great. I have the lamp off and air circulating in the garage.

Oh my goodness! My husband would be fit to be tied (don't know exactly what that means, my dad use to say it) if I did that.
