Would it be too early to start a July hatch-a-long?

I just set eggs and thought it could be fun to share with others that will hatch in July as well

I'm about to hatch some. I'm not sure what to hatch purebred assortment bantams or silkies? Hmmm.

I just put 10 shipped silkie eggs in and I’m crazy nervous! About 2-4 or so had detached air cells (I candled quickly and got them in so they weren’t handled too much so I don’t remember exactly how many looked good). They are all in the incubator and upright (in an egg carton) pointy side down and I’m thinking of not moving them at all for about 5 or 6 days and then putting them in the auto turner after that, candling at that time and then again around day 18 before lockdown. This is my first hatch and I’m so nervous that I wasted a bunch of money on shipped eggs that won’t hatch. They were beautifully packed, none were cracked or had any outward damage, but I think the post office threw them around a bit (and they also came a day late ).

I had them shipped from eBay. I probably should’ve done a bit of research and found someone local but for some reason I decided to get eggs all the way from Florida (I live in California). Lol but I’ll let you know in about 5 days if anything is developing!

Quick update... I kept reading different opinions on eggs with displaced air cells and since I’m starting day 3 I figure I should start slightly turning. I quickly candled without actually touching the eggs (the shells are very light so I can clearly see the air cells quite easily) to just check air cells and around 5-7 of them look good so not all hope is lost! A couple had larger and wonky shaped air cells and one I’m pretty sure is completely scrambled. I think I’m going to keep manually turning them in their upright (air cell up) position until Friday and then I will put them into the auto turner (which is in a horizontal position) and hope for the best. If 4 or 5 out of the 10 hatch I will be happy!

@dancechick915 I am wondering how things looked on day 7 and did you put them in the horizontal turner? I am day 2 and wondering what I should do for tomorrow. So much conflicting information about early part of incubating shipped eggs in regards to turning day 3 or day 7

So I left them vertical in a plastic egg carton for 3 days and then laid them horizontal in their egg turner. I checked at day 6 and 5 were developing and bouncing around (so cool to see them move!). The ones not developing had really messed up air sacs and possibly weren’t even fertile. I’m going to check again at day 12 or 13 and will give another update!

Day 12 update- I candled the 5 (without touching them... their shells are so light that I can just shine the light and can see them while they’re still in the turning tray). All 5 seem to be developing! I’ll try to get pictures tonight and will do a full candling before lockdown in a few days. I left one of the undeveloped ones in there for who knows what reason but did an “eggtopsy” on the other 4. From what I can tell they were unfertilized and one was completely scrambled. Half fertilization rate doesn’t seem so great... should I let the seller know or do you think they were actually fertilized and never started developing?
