Hi all! My husband bought me chicks & ducklings as an early birthday present. He brought home 2 black sexlinks, 2 buff oprhingtons, 3 Dominiques, 4 cinnamon queens, 2 Delware, 2 leghorns & 1 speckled Sussex. ducklings are 2 pekings, 2 mallards & 2 Rouens. Naturally being a surprise I had no brooding box, no coop, a whole lotta not ready for babies going on! We figured it out right quick! They spent one night in the tub with shavings & their heat lamp. Hubby built them a brooder 3x8'. They are now 5 weeks and getting SO big!
My husband was raised on a farm in Pennsylvania, I was raised on a horse ranch in So Cal. We both had chickens & ducks. He also had geese, turkeys, guineas, turkens & I do believe a swan or two. Having been raised in farming/ranching we never used brooder boxes, they lived with their mama's roaming around until nightfall when they put themselves away in their coop at night. This whole raising chicks in the house is an entirely new smelly thing for me. Learning curve! It has been a very long time since we raised chicks, won't tell you how long but we have grandchildren now. :D
A little insight into our crazy world:
We now live in Northern Arizona where we have endless open spaces, 35 miles from town & have 4 seasons, yes it really does snow in Arizona. Let me tell you 4 seasons are way overrated for a So Cal girl! Snow is evil, I don't like it, makes my life a living hell with the horses! I hate layers, warm weather can't come soon enough, give me a tank top any day! Okay, I will stop whining about winter. Is it summer yet?
I am a horse trainer/riding instructor by trade. My husband is a retired Marine who works for a weapons manufacturing company. I am always home since I work from home. (aren't I lucky?) These babies will be as spoiled as the rest of the animals here in no time! In our spare time (haha) we do a lot of hiking, exploring, shooting, fishing and trail riding. Ghost towns & Native American ruins are our favorite places to explore. We hit as many concerts as we can manage, I created a monster when I drug him to Metallica in 2017.
I'm sure I have bored y'all long enough! I will end here, leave you with a couple pictures I took the other day and go start searching threads about coops. Until next time!

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Great introduction and I love the pictures. Especially the one with the chicks climbing all over the bigger ducks!
You and I are polar opposites! I love winter, don't mind the snow, like layers and loath and despise excessive heat!! BLECK!!
