Jumping in head first-in the PNW

I love diatomaceous earth. There are so many uses. However I thought I read somewhere it wasn't safe for birds. Maybe I was reading about another animal I can't remember. But that is good to know. I will double check and definitely be using it out there for them.

Yes mint is a definite as well. That's one I want to put all around the property especially near the house and out buildings to keep spiders away. The only pests that I really just want to avoid are spiders and wasps. Last year the spider population was insane and this year we've been overrun by wasps. I want to get a couple bat boxes as well to help take care of the mosquitoes and wasps especially with standing water outside.
FGDE can cause respiratory problems in birds and humans. That is why I say to wear the mask. In my coop, once a week, I take all the straw out, using a duster spray the coop with FGDE and then put in new straw. I've been doing it for 4 years and haven't had any respiratory problems in my chickens yet. I would not dust my birds with it, as some do. If they ever get mites, I'll be using pyrethrin, which is the organic version of permethrin.

I didn’t think I liked goat milk. Then a member told me to consider that different breeds, different diets and just different lines give different tastes. I now know I like it from certain farms.
That's good to know. All the goat milk I've had (which isn't very much) I did not like. I personally thought it tasted like dirt, literally. But when my husband was in Afghanistan he said he had some that was pretty good. A friend of ours that actually lives pretty close to us just got to baby goats. Maybe we'll get a couple of the opposite sex and breed them like you say... That's our plan with the pigs. And goat milk can be used as an alternative milk when weaning the piglets.
