Got 4 out of 36 hatch. Okay, so I lied about being excited. I'm quite sure more would have hatched had they not been so covered with poo. Of the 24 sent by that seller only 2 made it to hatch. Yeah, they all were shipped eggs. But when they are shipped at a disadvantage I get a bit disappointed. And they didn't get the rave review that I would ordinarily give. I don't usually vent, but guess it is my turn.

On the other hand, two of the hatchers were from rumpless aruacana. I AM happy about those hatching. 2 of 12 wasn't as bad with a breed that seems to be notorious for difficult incubating.

I'll keep ordering and trying, but it sure can be frustrating.

Well at least you got some. Think positive

Instead of not hatching out 32 eggs you hatched 4 eggs! lol

But congrats on the new chickies! =]

Thanks, I'm not unhappy with the 4 that hatched. Totally happy with the little buggers. And I understand it can be a much smaller hatch with shipped eggs. Guess I was just venting on the dirty eggs. Should just let it go.
On a different note, gave one of the new babies a bath. He had all that goo stuck all over him/her and I fixed a nice bath for it. It seems much happier without the wings stuck to it and none the worse for wear. Drying under the lamp as we speak. If you haven't hatched a Creme Brabanter ya just gotta do it. They look like the punk rockers of the chicken world. Very fun to look at.

Yeah i haven't tried shipped eggs yet and would be frustrated if i paid for that many and had 4 hatch

and I would love to try to hatch one of those little Creme Brabanters! Maybe one day

I feel your pain, not too long ago I got some eggs shipped in and they too were sooo covered in poo i knew right away some wouldn't make it nor did I really want to put that filth in the breeding ground for bacteria (incubator) I scraped as much as i could off without damaging the eggs and put em in anyway. Out of 7 eggs 3 hatched, 2 were roosters

I was only looking to keep hens as there are way too many roos around here as it is. It is definately frusterating. On the other hand I won a bid for serama eggs on eggbid, the bid was for 6 eggs and the breeder sent out 10, I dropped one on the floor trying to pry the bubble wrap off which left me with 9. Out of those 9 eggs 7 hatched

so that one was alot better. All you can do is try again but perhaps with local eggs?

I've had good results with shipped eggs and bad. This one should have been better, but I really think the dirt on the eggs compromised the hatch. I got a better than 50% on my first shipped eggs. And with the quail I hatched about 75% of those went into the bator. I will continue as I love some of the breeds that are out there and its fun to incubate even with the heavy losses. I have many quail being shipped out on Monday to incubate. Now those are fun to hatch and watch grow! Such teeny little buggers at hatch!
