June 2013 Online Hatching Egg Swap and Chat

No Hurry here, we have been water logged all week, meaning the girls will play in the mud for awhile....translating to dirty eggs, and I don't mean the ducks.

Since it is starting to get quite warm here, does anyone have tips on what to do when packing/sending/receiving to try to alleviate that situation?

I go to the post office that is also the sorting center and go once the heat of the day has passed. But we are lucky and have po's pen till 9 around here.

Ok come to think of it, most of my tips wont work for other people, lol

Yes, and it also gets cool at night in CA. Down here in the south once it starts getting warm it doesn't really cool off. Low last night was 78.

I lost one of my Arkansas Blues yesterday. She apparently startled underneath the roost, flew up and broke her neck. I found her yesterday when I went to collect eggs and feed and water. Luckily I have a couple of splash that are at POL and probably her chicks as they look exactly like her. For some reason the splash in that breed is much more flighty than the blue or black. I know that sounds goofy, but I have noticed it with all the splash.

I have to brag on Jim's RIR eggs. He sent me 25. I just did the first candling, and it looks like two clear and two questionable. The rest are showing good veining. Hurray!

really hoping my 2 swaps do not mind waiting a little,,,it is so muddy here that I can not keep the girls real clean,,,,,,since i really do not like receiving dirty eggs, i will not send them either..

Mud on eggs does not bother me at all. Just poop. I'm sending one package tomorrow one went sat and one will go tuse or sat depending on how fast the quaillits are.
