So ready to put my eggs in lockdown...had to candle them today because wont have time tomorrow before work( all the eggs were devoted and moving with nice air pockets)..just got just enough time to take egg Turner out get eggs back in there and get humidity right

I don't know if the HAL is for broody people, 'bator people or both. But I have two broodies (so far) that are on day 14 and 5. The first broody is on 10 eggs (7 Ameracauna and 3 Wyandotte, all with an Ameracauna roo) and the second is on 6 eggs (same mix). First hatching ever. These hens are my first and I brooded them in my basement last year and I thought the hens could do the work this time

I've got a double-decker hutch with mama muscovy upstairs, sitting on her eggs due to hatch June 18, and a brave barred rock sitting on barred rock, RIR and welsummer eggs from our flock ready to hatch the day before just below her. I say she's brave because both broodys are very protective of their nests. Don't know if either will let me candle tonight, but I'd like to try.

I had one hatch Sunday...

I have two call ducks due Sunday! Woot woot!

Next crew is due 13th...that is a huge hatch of bantams, Cemani and the peafowl should get an extra week...due 21st!!!

On goodness I better get coop building!!!

This guinea keet hatched in the incubator yesterday. It wasn't supposed to hatch until Friday. It's my first one. I was having the worst luck hatching guineas then I heard loud chirping from the incubator. I'm glad I was home because I would have been upset if it got stuck under the turner.

This is Phoenix sitting on her first clutch of eggs. She is a wonderful broody. She doesn't attack me when I touch her or the eggs, I can move her anywhere and she will absolutely not leave those eggs. I do have to hand feed her because of that, but I'm willing to do that.

That blue Orpington rooster is Lancelot, who may be the father of one of two of the eggs. He died two days ago, due to sour crop. I'm hoping to get one chick from him, so his legacy and go on.

The other daddy is a Red Sex Linked, so maybe Ill get some white peeps.

The mothers could be-
Easter Egger (Her egg was one of the good ones)

Speckled Sussex
Buff Orpington
New Hampshire red
Lavender Orpington


Anyway, I put 9 eggs under miss Phoenix. It's her first clutch, and mine.

Two got cracked (both were thankfully unfertile) and one I had to chuck because when I candled today, it looked unfertile and what looked like the yolk was freely floating around w/ no veins. 3 of them I saw good air sacks, and embryo mass, but since they were a bit dirty and were speckled, I couldn't see veins. I wrote a "?" on them and stuck them back under her. The other 3 were perfect. Excellent air sacks, prominent veins and little (and very active) embryos.

I'm hoping I get some chicks! They are due June 18th
