yeah really only sex linked chickens can be told by feathers. Occasionally the longer, thinner feather on wing tip indicate a cockerel but only about 75% of the time. Only almost sure way is vent sexing and even it isn't a sure thing.I think you're exactly right, they told her something about the bump on the back of the legs=rooster ??? I was like ummm, oooookay, she thought the same thing, but gave them the benefit of the doubt![]()

That's a spur bump, and that's because some people for some reason are under the impression that only roosters get spurs, and that only male chicks have spur bumps, but all chicks do, which makes me wonder why in the heck they thought all the chicks were females since they would all have had the bump. I just wrote an article about rooster misinformation and actually covered this misconception in it.
Is everyone finished their June hatches???
Day old chicks might make her happy!!! hoping you are able to sneak them and she accepts them.Sadly, my June hatchings didn't happen. :-( My broody RIR has been sitting for 23 days. I candled the eggs and saw a pretty big airspace in all of them, and I don't see movement. Now I'm trying to decide whether to break her broodiness with the crate method, or get some day old chicks on Fri to put under her. Thoughts?
