June 2025 hatch-a-long

for those that don't know me I have a candling problem. LOL

so checked last night. I have 4 orpingtons for sure, 2 maybe? out of 14 eggs. not the best. was hoping to be able to sell some to cover some of the egg cost since I am only keeping 1...

the owlbeard I have I think 3 and 1 maybe.... out of 8 eggs

I only checked a couple of the BCM since I knew I wouldn't see much. some looked brighter than others so hopefully that means that some have babies in them.

AND in good news. I went to put away my incubator that stopped working and figured my husband could look at it later and see if he could fix it..... well I noticed that somehow it was unplugged at the little junction box that it has.... I don't know HOW I missed that before since I checked ALL the other parts that plug in. so I plugged that in and tried again and it is working! PHEW!!!!

I have a pip 😲 .

Day 19. These are bantam cochins. The average weight of the eggs was only about 38g.

Color me astonished. Still a long way to go, but I suppose that's something.

Congratulations! It's so lovely to see them come out of their shell <3

My duckling hatched too!

Then it took me two tries but I have successfully given the duckling to broody. I'm now super careful not to interfere because mommy leaves the nest for a break any time I get near now...

Here she is sleeping/drying a bit more in the incubator after my first attempt at putting her in the nest (hence the bits of straw).

I'm betting she's a she because of the black tips on her tail fluff, but we'll see.

That pip doesn't appear to have progressed any beyond what it shows in the vid. It's taking every bit of self-control I have to keep my hands off it. I'll be taking Ms. Fuzzy Toes out of the incubator in the morning regardless after taking some precautions to try to keep as much humidity as possible in the incubator.

ETA: I'd really like to take her out now, about 12 hours after hatching, so that any movement notifications I got would be from that egg, and not from her bumbling around.
