June Bug/Japanese Beetle Popcorn!

You need to keep the traps down wind from your property and the plants they normally attack. I'm sure i'm bringing them from a distance, but they are landing in my trap--so I don't care as they are creating chicken feed for me. Since I put them up, my trees are free of the little buggers and my myrtles are flowering.

Junebugs are the size of a volkswagon!, you can tie a string on and fly them around the yard. Japanese Beatles aren't that big.

I hang Japaneese Beatle traps over the chicken run, cut a hole in the the corner of the bag for them to fall out. Chickens will stand under it and catch them!!!

OK - so the Japanese beetles go into those traps and they're easy to catch in quantity. Any idea how to catch the big brown June bugs? For some reason, I can't seem to find more than a couple from time to time. I'd love to catch those in masses to feed to the girls. That would be a feast!!

Bright light (backporch light) and a bucket of water. Bugs hit the light and house and fall into the bucket of water. We used to have to get them out of our swimming pool all the time as kids. They are attracted to the light at night.

The HUGE Green June Bugs are another story. You need a small mesh net to catch those, but I don't think my chickens are interesed in something the size of their heads.
