JUNE HATCH-A-LONG come join in

Quote:
Yes, pipping! When the single pip hole turns into pipping around the egg, it's zipping; & you know what comes next! They can zip & pop out shortly or even take into the next day to pop out. Happy hatching!

Save The Favs - thanks for the encouragement. I'm not to optimistic. They hadn't rocked or wiggled no movement. They were dead. One about 2-3 days ago the other maybe 1-2 days ago. It was moving on Saturday for sure. On the upside I have 13 BOs and 6 banty Sammy favs to put in lockdown Saturday. And a few of my neighbors mutts?? Whose hen died a few days after that maybe? Not really sure when to lock them down. Any advice? See post

yoker: Oh, so that's a sportsman. Congrats on your wonderful hatch & any still hatching. Thanks for the pics.

I had one more hatch. So 30 out of 65 so pretty good.

My broody fave has a chick! I have hatched in incubators but this is my first broody. She hopped off the nest to have a snack just as I was out feeding and watering everyone. So I peeked in her little nest and there was a fluffy little RIR chick. Opal (broody) went to her feed and was totally calling her chick to come out and eat and drink. It was kind of amazing. While she was up I saw another egg had pipped and I saw the little beak moving. So cool. This is the way I will hatch all my future chicks. I hardly candled, no turning the eggs by hand, no worrying about temp and humidity. So simple and now I won't need to brood them in the house. I am thrilled. I will keep my camera handy tomorrow so I can get a pic of Opal and her chick. I can't wait to see how many are in there tomorrow.

Congratulations to everyone who's had success in June so far!

I forgot to note which day I put 6 eggs under a broody we call Goldie Lox. I was expecting this weekend but I must have been wrong! I saw two little heads peaking from under her this afternoon!

Goldie Lox was also the first ever that hatched for us, back in March! Now she wanted to do it again and hopefully this time will more successful than the first, where only two hatched (probably because I was so inexperience, and excited, that I messed with some of the eggs during the last three days, oops!).

It's too dark to take pictures right now, but it's the first thing I will do tomorrow to show her new chicks! I've never hatched with a incubator, just hens brooding.

I have another brooder that's sitting on two more eggs that should hatch in the next three days. WOOO!

We candled tonight and of the 32 we kept from the first candling all had some movement.

(I just love those little dancers!)

The little egg that didn't have an obvious up or down has its air cell on the side. I'm a little worried about this, but I've been trying to keep one end up... at least until lockdown (Wednesday!!!) If the air cell hasn't migrated by then, I guess I'll have to lay it on the side. Something is moving in the double-yolker. "Little" insists she saw two embryos, but I only saw one.

Keep posting photos, please! It keeps me out of trouble.

Placed 3 Barred Rocks into lockdown on Wed and they are supposed to hatch on Saturday,
Then we have a group due to hatch the 17th -mixed from the backyard flock,
The 22nd- from the Breeding Project pen Pure Light Brahma and Light Brahma x Barred Rocks
and the 28th0 Breeding Project pen Pure Light Brahma and Light Brahma x Barred Rocks

As each group moves to the hatcher, there is another group of eggs awaiting......from the breeding pen, they are laying 6-9 per day right now.....
So I am going to have to get another auto-turner and maybe even a 3rd incubator...

Mine are due on Sunday. I'm so excited. I can't wait to see what hatches. I am not patient at all. I check on mom and eggs once a day. And it kills me not to do it more often.
