June Hatch A Long

Awww, love Margaret with the babies! Is she an EE? Interesting set up! Are Nutmeg and Buckbeak brooding in their regular nestboxes?

Yes, Margaret is a blue Easter Egger and they all brooded side by side in the regular nest boxes. Nugget still sleeps in the 4th nest box with her older peeps every night by the other 3.

There has been an interesting development in the broody hen saga, lol. The hen at the top of the pecking order gave my lowest pecking order broody, Nutmeg a good swift peck to her comb because she wasn't willing to back off of her babies...Buckbeak is high on the pecking order and she literally flattened the top hen to make it clear she wasn't to show aggression around the babies. Anyway, they seem to have decided to co-parent over the 3 chicks for the time being. I find chicken behavior incredible to watch! At least they finally came out of the nest boxes to show the babies the food and water. :love

Nice that they are working cooperatively!

I have a confession, in all the excitement of the chicks hatching and getting Peacock and Turkey eggs...I didn't make ANY notes on what day I set the Blue Laced Red Wyandottes or the lone mystery duck egg. If it weren't for this wonderful thread I wouldn't know what day I set them. :lau

I believe they're on day 11. I had 6 BLRW and 1 duck egg. I only set 4 BLRWs because 2 were cracked. So now on day 11 (I think), the duck egg is infertile as well as 2 of the BLRWs. That leaves me with 2 lonely little eggs in the incubator but other than the shells being a bit pourous the chicks do look lively! I'm going to try to attach a video, I haven't had luck with videos on here yet...

EDIT: That didn't work, maybe this...

This will be a good experiment to see how well this incubator works without it being full. lol
