June Hatch A Long

Pics
I'm using the setup that I've been using for the previous batches. It's a cookie cooling rack bent into a V shape. On top is a heating pad. And the entire thing is covered in felt. They keep squishing it flat somehow!

Oh ok! I've seen those before! I actually intended to make one but I couldn't find a heating pad that didn't have an automatic shut off. The heat plates were definitely more expensive but it has been worth it! I hope your chicks figure it out soon! I'm sure that's why they've been making more of a ruckus for you.

Well yeah! You were automatically an honorary member! lol
Your chicks are soooo cute! I plan to get some Chocolate Mottled, Crele, and Blue Silver Partridge Orpington eggs for next month! Probably some Gold Laced Orpington eggs as well but I haven't discussed that yet.

YES! I love my Nurture Right 360s! I have 2 of them! They're by far my favorite incubator.

My husband would say that you are bad influences and I shouldn't talk to you anymore lol. I have a question about those cute little babies though. I have had orps before that were mixed colors but these little guys do have a few feathers going down their legs. Is that normal or something I should remove from the breeding populace by either culling or selling the birds with those traits?

I looked at the Gold Laced too and also the blues (I do have a blue splash and lavender but currently not sure if I will keep them) that were from Meyers. They are good for hatchery stock but their legs are blue and they are definitely not as friendly as the mottleds.

Those are ADORABLE :love Maybe I won't tell my husband I've fallen in love with them :lau
Always a good plan. ;)

I am using mine sorta. I would really like to use it more but my eggs I don’t think would live through side turning. As soon as I have eggs that can I will be using it more often.
Agreed. I keep doing whipped eggs.

Should say shipped.... but I felt like my phone was smacking me on the head with that autocorrect, so I left it. :barnie

Off to do evening chores, toddler bedtime.... and then rotate my egg positions in the incubator after today’s threads!!! :lau

These are them. Not bad looking. Definitely not of the same quality as the mottleds or Crele eggs I will be getting look, but not bad for hatchery stock.

Thought you were actually telling me to whip my eggs. Thought you might have cracked there for a minute.

Guilty as charged! I am definitely a bad influence and an enabler when it comes to hatching anything!
Orpingtons shouldn't have feathers on their legs. You could sell them to someone that wants them for pets and not breeding though!

That's what I figured. A little disappointing but always possible that another breed snuck in for a little nooky on the side. They all look like I would expect for Choc Mottleds. 3 have clean legs and 2 have feathers so I guess we wait and see what they look like as they grow. Worse case I keep a few of the hens for color and eggs but no roos and do a breeding group of the Creles to start. We shall see.

My final count was 6 (out of 10 eggs set). One was infertile with no development and removed at day 16; the remaining 9 were left with mum and 6 hatched yesterday. She was still sitting eeal tight so i had great hopes for the remaining ones but this morning she had moved off the nest - there was one unpipped, one pipped (and cold) and very sadly one almost fully zipped and beak half out but now cold and deceased. Very sad to see - it was so close.

The six babies are either araucana or araucana cross (easter eggers). It looks like maybe 3 black, 2 blue and maybe 1 cuckoo / barred (with head spot).
