June Hatch A Long

I helped, I know a lot of people say don't help, but I did. The yolk Sac was absorbed so I went for it.

Mama had the egg in front of her not under her so the chick is a little cool, but not to bad. I have the chick on me now trying to warm it up slowly. Im going to give it back as soon as I can. But for now I'm mama.

I think its going to be a long night.

I will get a pic went I untuck the little one before bed.

If I have the ability to help a chick, I will. I know nature has tough love but that doesn't mean I have to!
You may actually want to wait to put the chick back under momma until the others start hatching since you mentioned this chick was so early. Hens will usually only sit on the nest for so long after the chicks start hatching so they can get up and start caring for them but if you sneak baby under her at night when the others are hatching I don't think she'll notice.

@two j farm there have been so many wonderful and exciting assists in this thread, so you’re in good company.

It’s her first time hatching, she definitely was a bit confused but now she shows them food and ticks them in and protects them. Day one though I found the babies out in the run peeping confused and alone.
Awww, what a sad thought when peeps were alone and rejected! So glad that mama decided to take them in!!!:love

She’s lucky to have you helping her out! Looks like you already have advice so I’ll just wish you and baby the best of luck!:love

Hot here too! What day are you on? I don’t know anything about assisting broody hatches, but it sounds like the chick may need to do the “chick in a cup” in the incubator?
I just checked my calendar and the eggs are on day 16 or 17 because she moved to a new nest after the first week of setting.

I'm glad the eggs should hatch soon because it was 100 degrees here and the humidity makes it feel hotter. I need her off this nest before the heat kills her.

I’m in the same boat on day 18! 94 F today and hotter tomorrow. I made a kind of “personal ac” to keep my broodies cooler. I’m freezing Gatorade sized bottles and half gallon jugs at night. Then when it heats up to about 90 F, im putting it near their nest, being careful to keep it away from the eggs. For my more heat sensitive broody, Naruto, I also bought a very small (4”) rechargeable fan. I’m clipping it in at a position to blow a very slow rate of air over the frozen bottle and onto the hen. This has been working well and Naruto seems much more comfortable. I have a pic of her with the frozen bottle, but you can’t see the fan (it’s over to the left, clipped onto the cage that she’s in, severe feet away from her). If you look at my post on the general hatching thread, several people think that broodies are ok at 100 F. That’s probably true, but I hate to see them so uncomfortable.
