June Hatch-A-Long

Pics
Ok, I have a stupid newbie question. Today is only Day 3 and Daisy didn't come out this morning to eat and drink and poo. I have read people say that you should make sure they do that. At what point do I make her? Now or give her time? Should I put her food and water on the inside of the coop with her?

Are you positive she didn't come out? With my first couple of broody hens I was super vigilant in making sure they got up to do their business and even dripped some vitamins to them every so often to make sure they were doing well....several broody hens later, I just let them do their thing, lol.

Just let them do their own thing and don’t disturb them. They know what to do better than we do. She won’t starve or dehydrate, she knows what she’s doing. Let nature do its thing.

Wow. She has progressed so rapidly today to clear wry neck I am so glad I have the vitamin e in her. She cannot stand without going straight over to her back. If she wants to move I have to hold her until she wants to rest. Then I can put her down.

this looks bad and I’m so hopeful she can recover. See her neck it’s wrapped around my thumb...

No!!! Thank you!

eating is hard today and I direct dosed everything. This is perfect for when she starts eating well again.

I found a spot her neck sits normally. I just spoke with the breeder and she told me I need to ensure her neck stays straight through the therapy so she doesn’t stay that way.

am I sleeping on the couch tonight? With a goose? I think so. Hoooo boy. If the 22 year old me could see me now.

I’m going to see if I can invent a brace if some sort for her neck?

She also talked to a friend today who said she had a goose pick it up through parasites eating snails she believes. So she suggested if I don’t see clear signs of improvement off the vitamins to worm her with ivermectin. We don’t believe it’s a genetic or feed issue because the others are super healthy. It could be a traumatic injury? It could be parasitic?

sorry for taking over the hatch a long!

Aww, every picture you share of her just makes me want to cuddle that sweet baby! 😭
And you didn't take over the hatch-a-long. You're doing exactly what they're meant for! Sharing experiences and learning together!

I have seen pictures of a duckling with a sponge that was cut to use as a neck brace but I imagine any exercises or braces that are used need so be some time on, some time off. I'll see if I can find the picture again.

Thanks for checking in @SnapdragonQ and @CluckNDoodle

she is not improving today. She has made a few sounds after sleeping for a couple of hours but she is still doing the open mouth and tongue stick out every single breath. I have her wrapped in paper towels no inside the cat carrier so she can’t flip with her head propped on a stuffie and she is sleeping. I’m hopeful that rest can make things better as a last ditch.

I’ve gotten no help or info from my multiple geese-specific groups. It’s probably just one of those things that happens.
She CAN struggle if she wants to, so I’m thinking she isn’t terribly uncomfortable so I am okay waiting for improvement without cullin her right now.

but, this sucks.
Admin immediately said wry neck. Going to get vitamin e stat.

any tips anyone felt with wry neck?

I'm so glad you got some good info on the FB thread' Still praying for baby girl here.
🙏🙏🙏

And I was going to suggest reaching out to Casportpony and eggcessive. I've seen both give terrific info to people about wry neck, how to feed them (tube feed if need be) support them and other helpful info.
