June Hatch-A-Long

Exciting news my broody Duck who has been sitting very diligently for a weekish has bouncing eggs under her. This news brought to you three bites later for candling.

now that I know they are all living and no one is going to explode I will leave her be. Hatch date looks like it might be around the 24th. These will be my first momma raise ducklings if she goes through with it to the end.

Ok so far 4 out of 19 have hatch and omg they are cute lil dickens, two are black with yellow wing tips and one chipmunk color with feather feet and last one but first to start is a beautiful silver and feather feet all only have 4 toes lol I so wish I had asked about what breeds they could be .

I think 2020 needs to start over or hurry up and end :tongue lol

1 liege fighter out of 8. So bummed! Incubator did it’s job the entire time. Temps and humidity remained the same throughout. Calibrated everything prior to starting up the incubator. No water added as western Washington kindly keeps my humidity between 20% and 30%. They were all alive at lock down (65% to 75%), aircells on target. Then candled after the first one hatched. Found 5 dead and two internally pipped.

They made it out then died while drying. Looked them over and found that their tongues were fused with the roof of their mouth?! There’s no prying it down (tried) or cutting it, as they would have choked on the blood anyways. Haven’t seen anything like it with all the babies ive hatched.

One little Liege Fighter.

One more batch to go! Would be nice if they would stay alive. I think I killed the Liege Fighters by counting them before they hatched:th

Wait! Two more batches. My oldest hen went broody on me. Never expected her to be the one. 6 mixed eggs from Isbar, Cemani, Pavlovskaya, Birchen Maran, blue wheaten Maran and one of her own, Australorp. Curious to see how this turns out.

Lockdown tomorrow for the Wheaten Marans for a friend - candled today and 7 out of 9 look great, the other 2 looked like quitters but the nail test says there is still life in them so they will go in the hatcher too. Call Duck eggs are definitely done, no change from day 4. Lavender Orpingtons are all developing on day 4. And the pheasants, all 15 are growing nicely and my FIL has a nice hoop coop started for them to stay in.

3/10 out now. One silkie and two bantams of some sort that hatched from white eggs. Four more have pipped (one at the wrong end), and I’m waiting to see what the other three are going to do (I just quickly candled one of the blue eggs, and little guy has internally pipped and is alive....so that’s great!).
We will see what this day brings!

My two hatches are finished.Glad to report that of the 18 eggs I put down all 18 made it through and hatched out.I had to help 4 of tgem out of the eggs but two days on all are well and happy.100% hatch rates are a bit of a rare event especially when using broody hens so to get two perfect hatches is dream stuff.
