June Hatch-A-Long

I have 2 australorps about 4 months old. 1 turned out to be a roo. Neither are sweet or even want anything to do with us. I got them at the feedstore, and they were older then a day old for sure. Wonder if that has anything to do with it....

Could be, I got mine in a shipment from MPC, she has never been real friendly, standoffish really - just nosey to see what I am doing (well, from afar). The barred rock now that is a whole noter can of worms - comes to me like a dog, LOL.

We put 7 blue eggs under my broody Australorp (Gussie), on the evening of May 21, so by my calculations, any survivors should hatch somewhere around June 11th.

She has been so tolerant of me lifting her up for the daily removal the non-fertile eggs deposited by my other 2 hens.

This is our first go both with having a broody hen and hatching eggs.

Wish us luck.

Edited because I can't spell (probably still can't)

My australorps are curious from afar too.

I agree!! I have some barred rocks too (they came as packing peanuts with my silkies from ideal. We didnt handle them much since I knew I couldnt keep 10 roos-1 is a girl btw!!, and we handled the silkies alot. The silkies are more skittish and afraid then the BR's).
I LOVE the BR's. I went to the feedstore a couple weeks ago to get a couple more BR girls since I only have 1.
Ive seriously thought about selling some of my other breeds and getting more BR's!

And out of my bantam cochins, the ones that I hatched are my fave, and its the boy I kept that is the friendliest! He always comes out to see me when I open the door, lets me hold him and pet him.
