June Hatch-A-Long

I had to move my incubators and now the LG is being temp-ramental... grr - good thing it is only for a few more days. I am moving them to the hovabator as soo as my others hatch this week.

I'm in! I've got 11? Exhibition buff orps. Put them in last night so I guess I'm June 5th. This will be my first hatching EVER! And I've just had my trio for just a little over a week now! They are about 10 months? I can't wait to see what happens!!

I did candle today. Out of 16 eggs shipped, I tossed 5 today. 2 were a no go from day one since they had a loose air cell. The other 3 seemed to be quitters. When I candled those, there seemed to be a dark, heavy weight that I had to chase around the egg to try to candle it. I hope that makes sense. They weren't like the other healthy eggs I've candled. A dark spot that seemed to stay away from the light no matter how I turned the egg. Out they went. Dead.

I just got 12 eggs today! Really large ones, White Marans, if you can believe that. The eggs aren't the dark-dark kind, but I don't care about that. I'll double stack them in the incubator tomorrow morning amongst the showgirls and Red Turkens that are hatching next week. I sure hope I get a good hatch ... I put RIR eggs under my broody Turken, Pauladeen, and she abandoned them for the fake eggs next door.

I had a few extras so maybe she will be a momma anyway. June should be a great month to hatch chicks because they can go outside sooner.

I have two sets under two gold brahma hens due to hatch around 9th. Total of 21 eggs, probably all mutts but there is a small chance of pure faverolles or gold brahma. Roos are salmon fav and gold brahma, hens are gold brahma, black brahma, fav and plymouth rock.

Oh, and some bantam eggs that I'm pretty sure will be duds, cause the big boys don't show interest in the little girls. If by any chance they're fertilized, what would the chick grow up to?
Now I know all about the big roos and tiny hens (so you don't have to lecture me on that), but I was given the two bantams as adults and gave it a shot, and they appear no worse for wear at all - I've seen mating just once. Otherwise I would have rehomed them.

This is my first broody hatch, hope everything goes well.

I've got 14 BLRW eggs in the bator, put them in on the evening of May 14, and couldn't help myself, had to candle tonight and I'm seeing big spiders in 10 of them. So much easier to see in white eggs than my last batch of BCM eggs which were very dark brown. These were shipped from BC to NS, so I'm pretty happy. Hopefully, they'll all keep going. I'm keeping my humidity a bit lower than last time, and my temp just a wee bit higher. Live and learn.
