June Hatch-A-Long

With three broody hens we bought a dozen fertilized eggs and put them under them May 23rd, which makes them due June 13ish. THis is the first time we've had chickens and the first time to try and get the girls to hatch some eggs. Any advice is welcomed! We have them separated from the other chickens already in an old dog kennel. Now it's a wait and see game! I

I'm officially all done hatching, folks! At least for now

I did have 10 out of 11 hatch out and I'm very happy with that. Nothing in the world I could have done for the one that didn't make it. This evening, someone happened to be driving by looking for a lost young peacock and she and I got to talking. She was stoked about the fact that I had just hatched some chicks and took 4 of them home with her. She already has a brooder set up with several young chicks of her own so I totally scored on the re-homing on a few of them. The rest I'm keeping whether DH likes it or not

I just want to make sure I have enough layers for the family, you know?
Right now, I still have 6 peacock eggs in the bator and after that, I'm done for the season. I'm still rooting for the remainder of you June hatchers!

I put my eggs on lockdown earlier today. I added water to the other channel, took out the turner, and laid coffee filters on the wire rack.
Now my dang temp is still NOT back up. Its still at 96.6 and has been since I opened the bator. Dang it.

What kind of thermometer are you using? I would think that if your temp was fine beforehand, it should be back up just fine. I have noticed that if my humidity is very low, my temps go up one or two degrees. But that's the opposite of what you're dealing with. I have personally noticed that when humidity is high, the temps regulate much easier. I also stick to liquid or dial thermometers. Those types of thermometers will more closely reflect what the eternal temp of the egg is getting, imho.

Digital thermometers pick up the ambient temps real quick so if there is a quick spike, the inside of that egg isn't ever going to register it.

It is the digital therm/hygrometer. I have an analog hygrometer in there. Duh, I didnt even think, I have a small (the newer version mercury type therm) sitting on top of eggs. Let me go see what that temp says.

Ok digital still says 96.6, but the other is a teensy shy (I mean teensy weensy) of 100.
So should I leave the temp alone and not adjust?? (The other therm was same temp, teensy shy of 100 when I checked it before I opened bator earlier)

I wouldn't touch it. Sounds good to me. Everyone gets into a tizzy about temps but from my own personal experience, if it's hovering around 100, you'll be fine. My temps jumped up to 102 (not digital) and all I did to adjust it was to add more humidity. My hatch went very well. Keep us posted and don't worry too much. I'm learning very quickly that they are much hardier than we give them credit for.
