June Hatch-A-Long

Somebody tell me that it's alright because the odds of it hatching with such a messed up air cell were slim anyway...

Well, good and bad news for my hatch. Good news? 16 eggs made it to lockdown. Bad news? 5 quit late, and didn't hatch. BUT I still got 11 babies, so I'm pretty happy! That was out of 30 eggs, however a dozen of those eggs were from Trader Joe's so it's to be expected that most of them weren't going to develop.

Gloria the broody definitely has some babies today! I heard lots of peeping from under the fluff. Of course she is not ready to share yet. Today is day 21 so I will let her do her thing but I can't wait for that first lil head to pop out and say hi!

That's so exciting! I love seeing them just born when the mama decides to parade them around for the first time.

Haven't slept a wink, but my eggs are hatching! I've got two babies out, one who has zipped all around but is taking his/her time and a bunch of other pips. Next time I'm not putting the incubator on the floor...my back and legs are killing me from sitting there all night! Go babies go! :)

Looks like only one of my Penedenesenca eggs hatched. It is day 23 and only one is out. I will leave the other eggs for a couple more days just incase. I did candle my 16 Lavender Orrpinton eggs last night and so far so good. I also set 63 quail eggs this morning and have another 12 that will go on lockdown next Thursday. If even half the quail hatch I will have quail up to my ears.

I have one of the baby ducks in the brooder now. Still sleepy from me helping it out. It's trying to get up on it's legs, and it wriggles that little tail like a big duck..so cute!

That little chick was lonely until the I put the duck in, it snuggles right up to it now. :)

Day 20 yesterday and 25 hatched!!! Can't believe it! DH just called today, day 21, and says there are 7 in the incubator now waiting for me to get home and move them!!! WOW!!!!

I started with 82 eggs in 2 bators. Pulled 16 clears and put 66 in lockdown on day 18. Day 19 had first pip, and day 20 was like an explosion!!!! LOVE IT!!!

Can't wait to see how many we actually get. I already know one didn't make it. It pipped, and I left for work. When I got home, it was a small hole and no movement. I pulled it out and pulled away some shell and discovered it had died. So sad.

One other was stuck in the membrane, so I pulled it loose, but left the shell intact and within 5 minutes he finished zipping and jumped right out! That is another one I would have lost if I hadn't been there to get that membrane off his head and beak! And he's/she's a perfect little fluffy ball of black fluff running around. So, yes, I do intervene when I safely can.

5 More minutes til I get to leave work!!!
