Hey folks. My name is Brett and I am partial owner of a neighborhood pond in N.E. Oregon with a mute swan, geese, ducks and occasional visit by tundra swans and even a pelican now and then. Our swan is pretty old without a mate (we inherited her when we bought the place). She lays a couple of eggs every season and sits with motherly vigilance but of course is disappointed as they never hatch. This year I was able to buy 2 fertile eggs and we placed them and she is sitting on them. We hope she can hatch them better than an incubator can. The plan is to hand raise the babies to help protect them from predators and vandals but are still unsure if we could protect better than mamma. We are very excited and are hoping for the best!

:flGood luck & welcome!

I do hope she can hatch them! It would make her so happy and also be good company for her. Please keep us posted and let us know how everything turns out! And welcome! :frow

Sending good hatching vibes your way. Hope they help. When swans have a mate they take turns watching babies so mama can eat, drink and take care of her other necessities. A mate would help drive off predators. So it would be good if you could keep a close eye on her.
